Good Look at BMW 2 Series Coupe (F22) vs. Convertible (F23) Mules. No 235i Coming.
BIMMERPOST NEWS Good Look at BMW 2 Series Coupe (F22) vs. Convertible (F23) Mules. No 235i Coming. We've previously posted photos of the 2 Series coupe (F22) and convertible (F23) testing, but we've not spotted them testing together, giving us a great look at how the two models compare visually. The F22 coupe seen here is a M235i model judging by the blue M Sport brakes and split dual black exhaust tips (also seen on the M135i upon which the M235i is based). The M235i coupe (315 HP) is already confirmed for the US (see VIN details). Production will begin in November 2013 in the Leipzig plant, for an 8 month first-model-year production run (until June 2014). There will be no 235i model in the US or elsewhere, as the M235i will take its place in the lineup. The M235i will be joined by the 228i coupe in the US. The 228i coupe will also begin production this November. The production 2 Series will be revealed in the Fall, with its public debut potentially coming at the 2013 Frankfurt auto show in September). As the VIN thread linked above shows, Europe will see additional models, including a 220i, 225i, 218d, 220d and 225d. POTENTIAL 2 SERIES LINEUP The following is a potential / expected 2 Series lineup: • 2 Series Coupe (F22) - confirmed.Follow our 2 Series news, coverage, and updates @ http://www.bimmerpost.com/2-series/ Bonus close-up pics previously posted: * Click on images for high resolution versions * |

I'm sorry, but BMW is really screwing up on the nomenclature. Change is good, but "M235i" sounds like a gun James Bond would strap somewhere in-between his ankle and knee.

Interesting that BMW is opting to not create a 235i. While it makes sense that the difference between a 235i and an M235i would be too subtle for most, it's odd that they'd add an M badge to a non-existent model. It's as if there was a 135is without a 135i -- a sportier version of a car that doesn't exist.
BMW's naming conventions are far from elegant. The MBAs are running amuck.

no real surprise that there's no 235i. i mean there's no 135i f20 either. just goes straight from 125i to m135i. Even though it will be critqued for being "parts-bin", the M235i will be an awesome car and affordable.

So is this something we could look forward to from here on out? No more "base" 35i models, just the M35i to designate the "performance" car in that lineup?

Glad they're skipping straight to the point with the 35i's. Always annoyed me that they would release a car with the sport package, then a year or more later, add the M package.

Anyway, I'm under the impression that they have essentially eliminated the m sport package on all the new cars, opting instead to create a separate model in the line up but in addition to just cosmetic bits they also throw in the ppk that has been available for years now. This is exactly what the m135i hatch is...maybe I'm wrong though. TJ |
