Differential - pics - probably not from the M5
Here is a picture of the differential from an early M3 mule. It obviously has a very disguised bumper cover and mufflers. The larger top image is the production E60 M5 diff. They are obviously quite different. I initially thought they would just use the M5 diff, but it looks new to me. I suppose it could also just be a new diff cover / heat sink.
Dig those tires on the M3 - very wide. Nice lower control arms as well:rocks: . |

wow nice find on the new M3 underside. Seems that it will have two separate exhaust cans per side, unlike the current e46 m3 which has one entire can for the four tips.

I'd be surprised if it didnt't have sperate exhaust cans. Even the Z4 M's have them. Looks good. Hopefully will sound even better. Best regards, Jussi |

Definitely a possibility
Exhaust is indeed a very early "hack" made to keep the quad pipes hidden. Your idea about trimmed fins is also a definite possibility, although it looks like most of the trimming was done in an area that did not need it. Who knows...

Source of pics
I originally found them here: http://www.autoblog.nl/archive/2006/...90_op_schiphol , which was probably the original source before they made it to the place Jason pointed out.

My bet is strongly that production will have 2 cans, like the M5. However, I dug up another mule pic showing a single can. It's cool they seem to try out many different options. Maybe they don't even need to experiment that much it just gets them on the road testing more important things quicker by using somthing that fits at whatever prototype stage they are in.

Very true. That also make me happy to think that the exhaust sounds we have been hearing are not final. Like the rest of you I can't wait to hear the final product.
