The wife car - Sunset Orange / Oyster
Let me share some pictures of my wife’s new M240i. We ordered it back in February and got it delivered in June.
In Europe we are able to have almost the complete interior in Oyster so the color combination is a bit special. She built it exactly like she wanted it and the sales rep was excited because these kinds of cars in generel are quite rare in Denmark.

Looks great,, actually one of the best color combinations I've seen for Sunset Orange. Oh and I don't call mine "orange" I say it's Copper, like a new penny.
Did you change the mirror caps or order it that way. is the back spoiler black also ? |

Of course. That's why she designed it this way so it suited her well

Here is the back of it with the orange spoiler. The mirror caps are standard black on the latest models. The grill was changed to a black one. So far we have explained why the color is named as it is and it is certainly easier when the sun shines.

Yours is also looking great. :-)
She shortly considered the black spoiler together with a front lip but wanted to see the car before she decided. So far no changes are on the way and she certainly enjoys it. It is her dd and she is smiling whenever she drives it :-)

Lovely interior choice! The full Oyster door cards really make it look special. Shame BMWs here don't get the same treatment. If you're going out of your way for a neutral color interior, whether Oyster or Cognac, etc., the only way to do it proper is with appropriately matching lower dash and full door cards at the very least. Center console and carpets should match too, IMO. Who wants more black when paying for a special color??? I likely would have gone Oyster or Cognac if I could have it this way. Instead, BMW NA thinks having black carpets and center console is what we want. Forced me to go black, which is so boring. :

I see that the pictures didn't show the carpets correctly. The center console and the carpets are actually oyster as well. Even the foot rest.
All this bright interior also makes a huge difference in the cabin teperatur when the car has been placed in the sun all day long.

As she says. There is only one person driving this car so once it is adjusted no one is adjustning the seat anymore.
And there is of course the weight saving part of it as well. There is also no sun roof.

When Oyster was first offered in the US, you could have the whole oyster interior. In fact, I think it came that way for the 2 series. Remember when you could get gray or beige or tan and the whole interior was that color? For the sake of saving money on building the cars, it's basically all black now with just the seats and door inserts having the actual interior color. Limits your choices and saves BMW money. On the certified/resale market, hides flaws and issues. Apparently, it seems that the Europeans still get a choice! If you want a choice on anything anymore, it's Porsche. Then you have so many choices that by the time you narrow it down, they've also taken all your money!

The cost saving part doesn't really make sense. All 2-series come from the same factory in Leipzig so inventory is already there. You might not have local inventory when you need to replace something but almost anything can be shipped to every place on earth within 24 hours. Hence there is no problem in getting spare parts shipped for the next 10-15 years whenever needed.
We also wondered about the options available (or not available) because it seems as if the American market is a preferred market. At least over the Danish because we were told that the late delivery was due to car build for the American market. I know some American deliveries were several weeks earlier compared to us with the about same order date. Even though the delivery point is about 5000 miles further away.

F82, thanks for the info. I did not know that. I ordered mine in June and it just came in. Mineral White with Oyster Seats and only the inserts. ALL else is black and I didn't get a choice. Learned something new and thanks! Love your color combo.

Just a little update on the car. It turns out that we have been really, really lucky. First we wanted to look for a used one in Europe in the same color setup as we bought. They weren't around and as a consequence of our E82 118d almost dropping the engine we decided to order a new M240i. This was in February so we waited for the updated version with the darkened tail lights.
Now the lucky part: Since we got the car the complete bright cabin has been discontinued in Europe and even worse. The 2-series Coupe is now discontinued in Denmark. So less than five months after we got the car we would not be able to get the color combo we got and also not a new one.

With all the restrictions because of Covid-19 and social distancing my wife and I found some empty spaces yesterday and did a couple of shootings of both our cars. Here are the best of the M240i.

This car story ended in sadness.
The car belonged to my wife and she past away about a year ago due to cancer at the age of 53. Since then I have tried to learn to love the car but without succes so last week it was sold back to the dealer we got it from.
