Yup I think the 30 000 km (or two years) only applies to Europe. The US fuel quality/sulfur content has something to do with it if I remember right. I think it's also a matter of adapting to the market and what people are used to.

Today was nice enough and they're predicting about a week long without rain here. I pulled out the products and went to town polishing. I noticed a lot of rusty freckles in the alpine white but they were no match for the polisher. It's also a white car so w/e with swirls. Hopeful to ceramic coat after a dinner break. |

Gas is $4.80 at my local Shell station, up from $4.65 a month ago. I guess it could be worse.

I remember paying $0.239 for regular at what is now Twin Peaks Petroleum in San Francisco in 1972. That was the year before 1973's first oil crisis. Inflation-adjusted, that would be $1.65 today. Those were the days. On a more positive note, I crossed 15K today. That's 5,200 miles since the pandemic started; not much, but still something. I'm really desperate for road trips again and hope to make at least one this year.

Put new ties on it: ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus, all seasons, the highest rated all season tire on Tirerack.com. They are many times better than the Pirelli Cinturato P7 run flat all seasons that I had. It drives like a completely different car, and I’m loving it!

Annual oil, bi-annual brake fluid (including clutch line), coolant flush/replace, and total car once-over at our very good dealer. Coming up on 8 years, with the mods made, feels as good or better than new!
Sat (or tried to) in an i4 at the dealer and failed the “sit behind myself” test. Couldn’t even get my legs in the back during ingress to sit…butt never made it to the cushion. Oh, well… |

Paid it off! Still only have 33k on the ODO. Long, payment-free road ahead that I'm looking forward to.

30K!!!
I have never heard of such a long oil-change interval on any car.
BMW has a 'smart' system that calculates your driving style and recommends an oil change based on that, usually around 10K miles. Additionally, as noted, if you don't hit that target in 12 months, the car will ask for an oil change then. It is pretty persistent too! This is how it has worked on all the BMWs I have owned in the last decade and more. |

European Market BMWs depending on model can have oil change intervals up to 2 years and 30,000km, any current BMW in North America with this interval has probably had the service interval incorrectly coded.
In the past higher quality European synthetic oils that have been generally available, fuel quality and less variation and dustiness of climate have allowed the longer intervals, compared with North America. |

Ordered the M performance LSD for my m240i and a wifi dongle to do the XHP Trans tune. Should get the trans tune done this weekend then 3 to 4 weeks til the LSD gets installed. Any advice on what to expect and break in stuff with the LSD feel free to chime in.

M performance LSD break in....
LSD was installed in my M240i 200 miles ago.... Completely changes acceleration dynamics, especially while turning. Much improved over the open diff but not as sophisticated as the M2 electronically controlled clutches. I've driven an M2, the precise modulation of a slide while accelerating is a joy but on the street is too tempting to slide "just because".... I was concerned at first because clutch engagement was abrupt with the mechanical LSD but the engagement "ramp up" is improving as the miles increase and hopefully will continue to grab more smoothly as it fully breaks in. It might be partly my perception due to driving for 4 years on the open diff but would still prefer abrupt engagement over the horrible electronic modulation with the open diff under heavy throttle if the LSD feel does not change from here. I bit the $3000 LSD upgrade bullet to not be tempted to spend $20K on the new M240i. I love the look and smaller dimensions of the outgoing model and the open diff was my only real complaint. In my opinion BMW should have never offered the M240i with open diff... |

Today tried my first pulls with adding some E85 to my tank. Tried 3 gallons and ran JB4 Map 3 (+6psi). Compared to normally running Map 2 on 93 octane the car felt so much stronger. Next up is Map 4 as long as the logs look clean.
