Introducing Keith@tirerack.com. Your new wheel/tire moderator.
Forum Members,
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I am excited to be given the opportunity to be your Tire and Wheel forum moderator! I have worked with Tire Rack for nearly 12 years with various departments. Owning many BMW's over the years, they have been my passion for as long as I can remember. I hope my extensive knowledge of wheels, tires and BMW's will be a helpful resource to the forum. My goal is to provide our forum members the highest level of service possible. I will do my best to reply to all your questions and inquiries in a timely manner. Please feel free to contact me directly at Keith@tirerack.com or calling me directly at 800-428-8355 ext. 4799 if I can be of assistance. When you order online with TireRack, please click this link: http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=BS2&url=index.jsp and/or reference "Keith/2addicts" as your previous contact. This helps pay for the server and related maintenance through the commissions received from TireRack sales. It costs you nothing, but 2addicts.com will receive a small % back from the sale which is used to directly pay for bandwidth. Last edited by Rudy@tirerack; 04-21-2016 at 09:35 AM.. |

Thank you for welcoming me!
Most 245's cannot be safely mounted on a 7.5" wheel. 245/35/18 and 245/40/18 would both require a 8" wheel minimum. A 245/45/18 will fit on a 7.5" wheel as it has a taller sidewall and can flex a little more. With that said, people will attempt to squeeze 245s on 18x7.5 wheels, but it is not recommended and would void the warranty of the tire. |

Welcome Keith! Nice to have a rep here! I was just reminded of a question I need to ask Tire Rack, which may also help others.
I purchased a set of O.Z. Leggera HLT 18x8 wheels and 235/40r18 MPSS tires from Tire Rack for my M235i last September. They came with the standard carbon fiber O.Z. center caps. I was looking on O.Z. Racing's website some time ago and noticed something on the Leggera HLT spec page. http://www.ozracing.com/wheels/oz-ra...ch/leggera-hlt Note the line that says OE Cap Ready, indicating Porsche and BMW. I contacted O.Z. Racing on twitter and inquired if they knew of a specific center cap (they must, based on their website), but they told me to contact my place of purchase. So my question is, do you know what BMW center cap will fit these wheels? Is it something Tire Rack stocks? I don't really mind the carbon fiber ones, but would rather have a BMW cap if possible. I have searched dealer/parts sites and haven't found anything that looks like it would be a compatible diameter yet. |

I am happy to look into this for you. I believe OZ has a ring system that clips into the wheel, then the OE BMW cap clips into that. I will check and let you know. Please direct message me with your name and email address, that way I can look up your Tire Rack account. Thank you, Keith |

Disappointing, but certainly not your fault. Thanks for digging into that!
I see O.Z. have now also edited their site to include this information...would've been helpful 8 months ago! |

Xdrive stock tire sizes
He Keith,
Why is it that the stock 2 series xdrive comes with tires that are over 2% in difference in rolling diameter?? This is contrary to the awd golden rule of less than 1%. Do you have any insight on this? Would you recommend getting tires to reduce that variance? Couldn't this cause premature wear in the awd components? |

Also, we've got a 2013 X3 28xdrive. We're really dissatisfied with the stock brakes - feel like the first 70% of the pedal travel is met with 20% caliper effort. Then, it suddenly grabs. But even then it feels sloppy.
We had the pads and rotors replaced recently at the dealership and it still feels the same. I scoured the X3 forums and it was no help. You happen to carry a lot of pad options for the X3. Is there a front pad that you'd recommend that will help the X3 brake better and feel better? Thanks! |

You could possibly contact BMW North America and they may have better information or maybe there is a BMW engineer on here that would like to chime in?? |

If you are looking for more initial bite, I would recommend the Hawk HPS, http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...se+Model&a=AH8 I personally use these on all of my cars and have been very satisfied. I have found they have more initial bite than the factory pads and do not fade. (at least on the street). *At this point Hawk only builds this pad for the front of the vehicle. |

So the HPS should improve not just initial but but overall feel too? I'm fine just getting the fronts since most of the braking force is in the front Thanks so much Keith! |

Glad to help! The HPS will be an overall improvement from factory. This has been my go-to pad for many years. It has never let me down.

Hoping to get some help with specific tech Question - wanting suggestions or info on best hot track pressures for Potenza s007A's for upcoming HPDE. Stock 18" staggered setup on 228iX (225/245's), no camber plates or other suspension mods.
I fear that this is an area where the lawyers have taken over, as all I can get is generic 'use manufacturer recc's' when I called in to your main tech# (did finally get thru to somebody there who would actually address the Q, but he swears he just sets his tires cold and never checks hot pressures after track sessions; acted like I was weird to be asking about hot pressures). Bridgestone is even less helpful - they shunt me to a Firestone dealer and the 'factory specs' they regurgitate do not even match BMW info for road use. Any suggestions? or do you have a line to somebody at Bridgestone that would have track-specific info? Thanks |

If the car feels a bit unresponsive at that pressure, go up 2 psi and see how that feels. If it feels like the car is skating around a bit (esp. on corner entry), drop them 2 psi and see how that feels. Depending upon the track, I assume a 7-8 psi gain from cold.
