Drivetrain malfunction and fuel rail codes
Today I got a Drivetrain Malfunction followed by by fuel rail codes.
Has anyone ever dealt with these two lower codes? My car threw a drivetrain malfunction, shut off, then I restarted it and it was down at least a couple cylinders. I let it sit for 5 mins and it restarted like normal. Throughout the day I randomly smelled gas a couple times as well. Hpfp, injectors leaking, in tank fuel pump?

It's completely stock other than a fabspeed sport cat. Not tuned either

Kinda looks like your high pressure system is leaking, or HPFP is going south. Smelling gas is suggesting the former. I'd get it checked real soon, and carry a fire extinguisher until then. If you do have a small leak in the high pressure side of things it can spray an explosively misted cloud of fuel, much more flammable than a simple drip leak from a carb or low-pressure line.

I had the exact same errors on my F30 335i with MPPK - same engine as yours. It was a defect fuel pressure sensor.

Sound like mine. My mechanic told me that it was tricky to find because the error pointed him in the direction of the fuel pump but didn't find any problems. When he did a manual test (don't know how) of the pressure sensor it reported values totally out of range. Including negative values which could sound like your error reading.

***New to the forum - Just got my first 2 series last week***
I had this exact issue on my wife's old 1 Series. Turned out to be a £10 relay that controls the auxiliary fuel pump. Sits in behind the back left passenger seat. The old one was quite hot to touch when I removed it. I removed the plastic cover there was clear evidence of arcing. Hope my first post provides some help! |
