Another winter set-up thread
There doesn't seem to be a lot of 8" wheel w/ winter tire posts so that's why I thought I'd start one. I'm researching /shopping for next year's winter rubber already. Currently have a set of 18x8 et35 wheels that will hopefully be re-finished during the summer.
Typical S.Ontario country road commuting. Wet, heavily salted roads with infrequent but possible heavy snow days. 225/40/18s (currently installed) seem to be the go-to size. There also doesn't seem to be a lot of 235s or 245 winter sizes available out there. Is anyone running larger winter rubber? 245/40/18 seems to be the next more common size for winters... I have camber plates available for clearing the fender but there shouldn't be any issues. Leaning towards Blizzak WS-90s but they seem a bit overkill for the winters we have been having lately. Has anyone had success with "performance" winters like PA4s or others on RWD? or is the trade off too noticeable? Any other tires people have fallen in love with? https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1804723 this thread mentions 8.5" wheels with 245/40/18 et40 and they seem to fit, so I guess an 8" et35 is about the same fender wise? (1/4" = 6.3mm et40 - 6 = 34) Thanks Last edited by freakystyly; 02-07-2023 at 02:22 PM.. |

OZ Omnia 18x8 ET40 wheels with 225/45-18 (one size oversized) Sottozero 3 tyres Have worked well for me in Calgary over 5 winters. I did use the "H" speed rated version of the tyre though that has a more aggressive winter rubber compound than the "V" rated version, but is otherwise structurally and tread-pattern wise the same. Just under 20,000km of use until reaching the 4.5mm winter tread wear limit.
