Yes, I did seriously take the 228i into account while shopping. The difference between a well-equipped 228i and M235i was minimal in dollar sense in the big skim that I decided to go with I6 turbo power plant.

This was my point exactly. There is nothing like the silky smoothness of that BMW I6, add a nice twin scroll turbo and its perfect. You are going to love it.

We're now proud owners of MG/CR M235i!
Posted good news. http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1082904 We really appreciate everyone that participated in this missive. Your opinions mattered and solidified our decision in the ordering of a model pretty much sight unseen. |

They didnt "settle" for anything. I could have spent $78k on an M4 if I wanted...Faster, sexier, sleeker than my M235. I choose the M235 instead and for all the reasons many of the 228i owners bought their cars over the 235..

I think that's off base. I debated the lighter, better balanced car versus the faster car. I also struggled with the auto versus manual decision. Both decisions involved compromise in either direction. Kudos to BMW for making it a tough choice.

Ridiculous! So why didn't you get an M3 or an M4 instead of "settling" for an M235? My question to you is just as ridiculous as your statement to the OP. (Lest anyone misunderstand, I'm being facetious here)

I test drove both the MSport 228ix and M235i today. I didn't flog them too much, but the M235i was quicker, but also had some understeer in a tight corner where the 228i felt more nimble and planted. Some of which is attributed to weight like in my 328i but also the xdrive probably helped also, both fitted with 18"s, but the M235i had michelin PS.
The M235's traction control kicked in sooner and the rear stepped out more easily. Fun! Both were wonderful, and I would be happy with either. Both had their +/-'s. The 228ix had non-staggered (square) tires. 225/40's I believe. I have a question for the 228i owners, both Msport and ones equipped with Track package. Are the 228i MSports and the 228i with track package equipped with non-staggered tires?

Yes, my 228i with MSport and track packages came with 225/40's in the front and 245/35's in the rear. The front wheels are 18x7.5 and the rears are 18x8.

My point is the M235 is the best version of the 2 series. That's all. And to answer your question- I didn't get an M3 or an M4 because they've become bloated. The 2 is the perfect size, and IMO, exactly what a BMW should be. |

There are other opinions: http://jalopnik.com/the-bmw-228i-is-...buy-1662847106[/QUOTE] That's just it. It's subjective and dependent on your situation. In stock form, Msport 228i/M235... If you'll be driving boulevard/straight line driving then yes the M235i is better in a straight line with better acceleration, better sound etc. If you're driving spirited through the hills/mountains on tight twisty roads, 15mph corners and such, the 228i will work just as well, if not better. Get the car that best suits your needs/requirements and be happy that there are mods to improve it further.

The point is false. The reason is conflating one's own subjective feelings with objective reality. There are objective measures which separate the two cars....speed, weight, fuel consumption, handling, price, etc. How each of us puts those elements into our own personal calculator to create our own subjective best varies and each is as valid as the next. There is no point to attempting to force your own personal assessment from subjective to objective...those who already feel the same will continue, and those who don't, will not. Nothing gained, except becoming seen as a source of dogma.
