Camber plates on stock F22

Strongly considering a set of camber plates primarily to dial in fitment of a 245 square tire setup, but also to improve handling. Stock suspension on '15 M235i with Apex FL-5s and PS4S. I've never installed camber plates before so I have a few questions:

1) I've heard people mention that it's best to install camber plates alongside coilovers, is this true and if so is it a hard requirement? Can I install camber plates with the stock suspension or are there good reasons not to do this?

2) What is the NVH impact of camber plates on these cars for regular street driving? Don't care about extra noise or a little harshness when pushing the car but would like to avoid lots of clanging or change in ride quality when using car as a daily driver, which is its main duty.

3) Any particular brands to go with or to avoid? I've heard that Dinan's set have pretty severe NVH so curious how much of a difference there is between brands.

1) I'll let others weigh-in on this, as I'm no expert.

2) Mine makes somewhat more noise when going over noticeable road imperfections. It hasn't affected my satisfaction with what I chose to have installed, but NVH considerations do tend to be very personal.

3) I've been led by a forum sponsor here and the experiences of other owners here to believe that some coilovers allow a wider tire than do some other coilovers. (I'm unable to find the thread now where the forum sponsor listed the coilovers limiting width and those permitting more width.) IIRC, the forum sponsor/vendor listing the coilovers was HP Autosport.

I bought a Koni-based TCKline Racing coilover kit, and I'm able to run 10.2" section-width front tires with no spacers, camber of -2.6°, and a very mild fender pull. The struts are Konis, but the forum sponsor recently said that the TCK is no longer offering kits for our cars.

Yes, you can certainly install camber plates on a stock suspension. Many do it for the reason that they are only after additional camber and not necessarily ready to upgrade to a coilover system.

There is some NVH since you have a monoball vs rubber mount. There is not much change in ride quality since that is more or less determine by dampers and springs.

Vorshlag is our go-to, but you will find others out there. Vorshlag uses the largest monoball bearing so it is the most robust on the market. You want to avoid any so-called hybrid plates that use a plastic/urethane spacer to reduce NVH. They tend to wear quickly and caust more NVH than monoballs.

1. I've got Vorshlag plates with the Track Handling Package's electronic dampers. No issues. From my understanding, most people pair coilovers with camber plates simply because its economically efficient to do both at the same time. Honestly, the stock dampers are good enough for all but the most dedicated of track rats unless you're in one of the early 'non-sportline' or 'luxury-line' cars. Lowering springs do make a big difference for the stance of the car though. Edit: you'll need to make sure the plates can accommodate the stock spring...coilovers usually run narrower diameter coils, thus the reason you have to order them together.

2. I hardly notice the extra NVH. Occasionally I'll get a minor rattle over very rough pavement or a double clink on speedbumps. Its no worse than the other noises a completely stock 2er would make with steering rack clacks, quirks of the Ackerman geometry, or the brake pads groaning in the cold/wet. It was mildly annoying the first weekend as the bearing lube worked its way into an even coating and hasn't bothered me since. I strongly suspect that most of the people who complain about the noise have bad bearings (they are a wear item) or aren't lubing them annually. It takes a little extra TLC to make race car parts work on a street car.

3. Vorshlag plates are awesome. You can find the camber plates thread here in the forum that documents a bunch of minor design changes - 1 mm here and there - to accommodate our cars early in their design, testing, and production process. Great people. Same for HPA.

1) No expert but what I've read you can add plates with stock

2) Sounds like bigger bumps etc you will feel a bit more.

Looks like pretty easy DIY, anyone else do ?

I have the Vorshlag plates with the stock ZTR suspension and they work great. No noise (so far)

Millway

I've run both Dinan camber plates and Millway. The Millway's are by far a better product if you are worried about NVH. They use polyurethane bushings instead of metal on metal. https://www.millway.se/camber-plates...m4-hybrid.html I couldn't take the Dinan noise any longer, these are a dream and a well made product.

Damn. Was looking at the Dinan camber plates. How recently was this bad experience you had with them?

I'm trying to accomplish a 245-35-18 square setup on MPS4S with 2 or 2.5 degrees of negative camber in the front. Wondering if 1) this can be done, 2) this can be done with the dinan plates specifically 3) are dinan camber plates the ideal solution for me

I was planning on going with dinan springs, and if I went millway or vorshlag or GC, they would not honor their warranty for my suspension.

I was looking to go with their springs and camber plates and maintain their warranty but I called today (they actually said they "haven't heard of any problems with the plates within the last year") and the springs are on backorder and there seem to be a fair share of unanswered complaints with the camber plates. Not sure what to do now.. my car is down till I figure it out.

No but it's kinda pointless imo to mix dinan suspension bits with other companies because you won't get the warranty, and that's one of their main selling points. I'd only rock all dinan or no dinan.

You never know when a shock blows or other suspension bit fails. If you have dinan springs and vorshlag camber plates then dinan won't help you.

If you're out of warranty it doesn't really matter though..

I wouldn't hit a dog in the ass with Dinan, they blew it for our platform. I'm running 245 35 squared at -2.5 with no issues , the only issue is finding is a good track / street tire. I've run Federal RS-RR's, MPSS and now the Kumho Ecsta's. The best for track has been the RS-RR's but they are load AF. Trying to get another rim ET41 and go with 255's squared. I'm running the Bilstein B16's and are a dream.
