Mysterious Coolant Loss M235i
Posting this on behalf of my dad.
Received low coolant warning on his 2015 M235i. Got some coolant and proceeded to fill. Bottle reservoir was basically dry, ton of air in the system. Followed bleed procedures to get the air out of the system, ended up throwing in 2.5 Liters of 50/50 mix. Car has 5,000 miles on it. Not seeing anything underneath the car while parked, can't identify any source of leaks. Where in the world is this coolant going? Going to call SA tomorrow and get the car in service, didn't know if anyone else experienced this type of issue. Going to closely monitor tomorrow and see if I see any change in level. |

Source of leak is near the air dam driver side. |

Appears a piece of material (rock, ice, something) was able to somehow make it through the opening of the air guides puncture the heat exchanger.
I guess this is a PSA to put screens or something over those air guides. This isn't covered by BMW either. |

Wow! That is disappointing. Depending on how much the repair cost is vs. your insurance deductible, could you involve insurance?

A rock or something hit the oil cooler and caused a leak. It hit the metal fin, dented it, and sprung the leak. Didn't damage the air dam front grill or anything, so it was something very small, which is kind of concerning if something like that can cause damage. Cost is $791 to repair, involving insurance to reduce price w/our deductible. |
