We've all seen those marketing pictures 1,000,000+ times. The purpose of this post is to get amateur pictures of actual purchases! That said, has anybody actually brought home Melbourne red? What are your first impressions, and that of others? Can you post a picture? |

Call me crazy...I drove 2 1/2 hours each way yesterday to see what Melbourne Red looked like in person. They are few and far between at dealers. I really liked it and will be ordering a MY2015 in red. Like most colors, it looks completely different in different lighting. You can see that in the two pictures above and I think both picutures are true to what I saw. Personally, I like the color better when it looks a little darker as in the shot above that looks darker.

I heard dealers will not be getting stock of the blues and reds for the most part. They will mostly be getting white and black and gray and silver as those are perceived as easy sales. That said, it will be easy to spot each other around town!

I do not think you are crazy! Specifically, the red is a big decision. I did not drive two and a half hours however I did test drive Melbourne red ones and threes and fours… trying to estimate what that color will look like on this car… that is also why I am starving for real owner pictures… (not professional marketing pictures)

Actually I got mine from the lot and other dealers around my area have some in red and blue as well. The 2 Series is not a very practical car like the 3 so I think many people who want to get the 2 don't mind if their car has flashy color as it's probably not going to be their DD anyway.

Perhaps an East Coast West Coast thing. It's starting to look like you guys on the West Coast are able to get reds on the lot, on the East Coast here it is nonexistent.

I've been watching AutoTrader for the last couple of months. There have been zero to no red M235i's is the southeast. This surprises me since BMW themselves thought the color was the one to show off the car by giving it to all the reviewers.

That said, I believe they are ordering white black silver gray's because they feel that's what will move off the lot quicker on the East Coast. I've also observed on the West Coast they more about the customer and on the East Coast all they give a rats about is the numbers. It should be a balance of the two as one drives the other. |

I test drove a Melbourned red manual one yesterday. I think i'll keep my order for the Alpine White. I wish the red was more Imola like and not so metallic and darker.

I love the color but it's hard to photograph, it often comes through more orange-"y". But in person it's a beautiful rich red.
I really want MR 235 with a stick, with red interior. Having trouble finding one. |

You're evil, I'm trying to find excuses not to get one.
I currently own a e90 335xi with the Stage 2 kit and BMW PE. Its a manual and is fully loaded. Its a sweet unit. Sadly, its sapphire black. Black cars are not me. I'd love a MR or EB2 version. The 335 fits nicely with 2 kids and the Xi works well living in Winnipeg. I've often questioned the need for Xi in many places outside of here and edmonton. Regardless, my current unit is sweet, but this 235 is the first thing I've seen thats tempted me out from any manufacturer (CLA45 has tweeked my interest too). |
