Because there hasnt even been a hint of an M4 GC, I could only think of how low the chances are for an M2 GC. Also its a little small for 2 extra doors (compare to 4 GC!) so there wouldnt be much room for a market I think, I get practicality though.

I don't get that argument at all. As others have said, there is a huge market for small sedans, which is why BMW is building the 2GC when they had previously said they wouldn't. They saw the success of the Merc and Audi and figured better late to market than never there.

The F30 3er is larger than the E39 5er and the 2 series is the exact same length as the E36. I had an E36 M3 sedan and it was perfect. As much as I don't think they'll make the M2 GC, BMW is stupid for not competing with the CLA45 or S3/RS3. Just my opinion of course.

We should start a pool. I would give 2:1 odds that there will not be an M2 sedan.

There will 100% never be an M2 standard "sedan" but i know what you mean. But yes, sadly, I think the odds are even greater against an M2GC being built. Maybe I'll just buy an M235i GC if they build that and upgrade it with M2 parts. Those cars should be somewhat similar... I think. Granted I'll have to pull off that silly M235i badge.

I could have sworn I read confirmation from an interview with someone at BMW, where they specifically mention competing with the Mercedes CLA45 and Audi S3. I'll try to find what I read.

I'd take Rx8-esque 'suicide doors' just to access the middle section easier.

According to 'BMW Insider' Scott26, the 2 series GC has been fast tracked for 2015 release to compete with A3 and CLA. He also confirmed that BMW is building the M2GC to compete with CLA45 AMG and Audi RS3. Fingers crossed this is accurate. I think the guy is usually right, but obviously we'll just have to wait and see.

Where are you getting this? That's 12 months best case scenario and we haven't even seen a mule. While I'd actually pick an M2GC over a regular coupe (already have a coupe, would like "sedan" next), a 2015 model is highly unlikely IMO. Next generation I could believe.

If the standard 2GC is supposed to be released in 2015, that means first half of 2016 for the U.S. And the M2GC would likely come after, not sure how long. This is of course my estimation based on how they've launched other models.

As I've said, fingers still crossed. I hope BMW announces something in the next several months. Hell, just tell us if you're not going to make them so at least we know.

See post directly before yours. I don't think I ever saw it on bimmerpost.

You are saying in this post, that Scott26 has said that BMW has fast tracked the 2 series GC,to be released in 2015.

Which thread on Bimmerpost did Scott26 say that?

Once again, I'll keep my fingers crossed. BMW CEO once came out and said the M4GC was being built and then a month later the last M boss came out and said no. So I'm still holding out hope for an M2GC for the wife.

You really couldn't search yourself?

The 2 Series Gran Coupe will define in this compact four door segment a unity of performance , individuality and downsized luxury to compliment the BMW 6er Gran Coupe and upcoming BMW 4er Gran Coupe.

And like its larger brethren, there are firm plans for an M2 Gran Coupe.

With the 2 Series Gran Coupe now fast tracked for 2015 , BMW intend to make the gran entrance in this segment, the appearance will not just be what counts. With a greater emphasis on dynamics and typical BMW character.

If you read some of the reviews of the CLA there is some ride and dynamic issues that have been picked up by the media.

BMW are pushing the Coupe to retain the benchmark for the compact segment in every way possible. The 1 Series coupe was the entry to the BMW Sport Coupe, 2 Series will be the entry to the RWD BMW with the advent of the 1er eventually switching drivetrains.

BMW are fully aware of the potential of this car and indeed the Coupe , For the current hiatus BMW see the Coupe to hold the CLA and A3 at bay until the arrival of the Gran Coupe.
I've been searching to see if he's updated that statement to the contrary, but so far I don't see anything about him going back on the previous statement. So if BMW releases the standard 2GC in the Fall of 2015, I'm guessing that means early 2016 for the U.S.? I wonder what that would mean in regard to timeframe for an M2GC if they build it.

Has anyone seen a more recent post from Scott that goes back on his previous statement?

Thanks,I did a search and I didn't find that thread. It is an older thread,so I must have missed that info when it was originally posted.Hopefully the information is still correct.I really didn't think there was much of a chance of BMW producing a 2 series gran coupe because there haven't been any pictures of test cars.

Ok, i get where you're coming from. Harder to find older stuff on bimmerpost.

That's why I actually saw it first on BMW Planet first because they don't have any newer info on these models. I found it a lot easier to just google search instead of digging through pages of bimmerpost search results.

I guess I'll keep an eye out for newer info saying they're not building them. That's a lot of time to change production directions. But like I said, the wife needs an M2GC with DCT so I'm really hoping for it. We'd like to do a European Delivery for one.

My wife is interested in the M2GC too, but she demands a 6MT, so hopefully they will allow that configuration unlike Audi here in the US with the S3 where you get no option on the transmission (unlike everywhere else in the world). Also, PLEASE BMW allow the M2GC to be spec'd out with NO sunroof like the M235i -- in other words, do not bundle a sunroof with a bunch of other stuff someone might want, and then force it down their throat.

Hopefully they offer manual and DCT as well as a carbon roof. They need to differentiate from the M235i as much as possible, so that's a start.

You must not have read the quotes i provided above. I also included the link to the thread.

Please note it's from a while back, but so far he hasn't posted any info to the contrary. So I'm going to try to stay optimistic.
