BIMMERPOST NEWSBMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Rendered. Firm Plans for M2 Coupe and M2 Gran Coupe The 2 Series coupe and convertible are on their way, having already been spied in testing for months now. So what's next to come in the 2 Series lineup? Possibly the 2 Series Gran Coupe, which Autobild has taken a crack at rendering. Although no prototypes have yet been spotted, it's been previously rumored by BMW insider Scott26 to be on the way. Here are the models that may round out the 2 Series lineup (some more likely than others), per Scott26: Quote:

Yes it is true that BMW are moving the four door ahead especially in regards to lukewarm media reaction of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Klasse and the upcoming Audi A3 Sedan in which both stretch their FWD credentials.
BMW are aiming at the younger customer who craves performance and sporty driving but has other priorities to think about. The 2 Series Gran Coupe will define in this compact four door segment a unity of performance , individuality and downsized luxury to compliment the BMW 6er Gran Coupe and upcoming BMW 4er Gran Coupe. And like its larger brethren, there are firm plans for an M2 Gran Coupe.

I'm seeing confirmation of only the M2 gran coupe. I don't see confirmation of the M2. Is there something in that german article that says otherwise?

I am now potentially in the market for a new car. BMW you are you own competition. Make it worthwhile (driving wise) to buy a new one over another E46 or other older BMW and you will have at least one customer.
Because honestly all I care about is that its brilliant to drive, has decent features, and has good build & material quality. As for my comments on the render it looks more GT-ish than Gran Coupe like. |

Got a feeling the vehicle that most enthusiasts will identify with will be the 2er coupe, considering the new 4er coupe is polarizing and larger. Will see if the crown moves to the 2er line.

An M2 Coupe and especially Gran Coupe would be fantastic. But I suppose they won't have the guts to put the same engine with the same power specs as in the new M3 and M4 (rumored to have around 420hp). They will probably use a single-turbo N55 variant with like 335hp, similar to the current 1M but it will be quite fun if the car's weight can be managed.

Yes, it's coming an M2 Gran Coupe is needed in order to take advantage of compact performance sedans.
There is still going to be a four dr 1er which will be FWD along with a MINI sedan. But the Gran Coupe will bring that Gran Coupe exclusivity to the compact segment. The advance of compact performance cars is the defining answer in extending the M2 range to accommodate other customer groups along with a conventional M2 Coupe.

I have an opinion (IMHO) The 7 drives like the 5 and the 6, they are centres of excellent for all areas but not driving. Here in the UK the Co2 figures are everything, so 90% of UK BMs are underpowered diesel examples, great cars, fuel efficent,BUT SHIT. Ultimate driving machine, NO! I have owned 7,6,5,X3,X6,X6M,X5 and M3 all current designs. Only last week took out a 6Grand Coupe 640d Msport, gave the keys back thinking its a sleeker 7, with a compromised comfort for a 6,4 guy. Lets have the next generation, drivers cars and have the sales guys talking about the' drive ' not the apps you get on the i drive. I want to change my M3 for 4 door car, love the X5 and X6s but we have one already, so thats leaves ?????????? Come on BMW lets please the accountants and the older BMW drivers with a passion for that drivers edge. |

I think a 360 hp 4-cylinder in a lightweight M2 platform that has the manual transmission built around it like a 7-speed would give us a return to the the BMW roots
At this point, with the M4 and then no more V8, turbo only etc. BMW has the chance to return to the ultimate driving machine And yes with modern inventions and transmission technology the manual transmission is becoming obsolete but it still is the main connection between man and machine...
