all positive

My last two cars were a audi A5 s line black edition coupe and a 335i m sport plus coupe and must say i get as many good comments maybe more about the m235i ,most cant believe its a 2 series due to its size and mistake it for a 3 series. When parked at work i do see a lot of people will stop and have a look at her as they walk past but she is usually gleaming as i have got a bit of ocd when it comes to keeping her clean . Check the photo next to an A3 now thats a boring car, even the misses wanted to get in for a quick photo opportunity as well.

The colour and wheels look good we need a front photo. All our interior furniture is from Denmark.

I agree. I've gotten comments more along the lines of "the back looks like a civic.. but the front is nice though!" and I don't blame them. I have a hard time looking at the rear end as well.

I don't have an m235i but it's one of those cars that only people who know about cars can appreciate it for what it is.
People who know nothing about cars don't realize a 235 is better than a 335,435,535 , 640 and 740. They think the higher the number the better the car but don't realize they all have the 35i engine and carry more weight ..
I don't think the 235i looks great , but still love it.

I've only put ~80 miles on my 228x so far, and only my sister and wife have seen it. When I tell friends/family we picked up a 2-series their #1 comment is by far:

"Now I can picture a 3-series and a 4-series, but I don't think I've ever seen a 2-series... What is it, exactly?"

FYI- also not crazy about direct rear view of the car. Rear 3/4 view(especially with M-Sport bumper trim and wheels) is pretty great, however!!!

Other than one water wash at the dealer, my M235i has only received "sponge" baths since new, 8 months now.

So I took my pride and joy to the local car wash for the first time yesterday - a real, first-time bath! Wheel wells and all!

The write-up guy says, "Nice car!"

I've been taking my 2012 Mercedes-Benz to the same place for 3 years now. This is the first time anyone there said, "Nice car."

Yes, it's a nice car. A really, really nice car.

I agree, it's not a outstanding looking car. It's very nice, but let down by the tiny wheels and lack of sex appeal. It's no 1m, or m4. Great value for the money, but no looker like the cayman

I've got a 2014 DSB 228i with Oyster.

Any time I see another 2 in the wild I always wave or give a thumbs up... people usually completely ignore me... this is LA, haha.

The enthusiasts / BMW fans love it. I get a lot of comments about how similar it looks to the E46, I love talking about where it fits in the canon of the brand, and how it's carrying on the rwd sport coupe heritage.

It's weird, a lot of people at work/meet through work act kinda judgmental about my car (the Prius set, of course) and sorta roll their eyes and tell me how "douchey" they think BMW drivers are. I think they think it was a lot more $$ than it actually is. Whatever.

At the end of the day, I bought it for myself, and I love it. Every time I walk up to it or get on it in Sport mode and hear the little turbos my reaction is stupid, stupid joy.

its a very interesting mix. EVERY Subaru STi and BRZ driver and 80% of WRX drivers wave, smile or thumbs-up at me. Guys in regular BMWs (335s, X5s, 5s) dont even look. Old guys driving 911s look at the car with smiles of approval, no waving.
I am thinking that people who know 'fun cars' notice, the rest don't care. and I like it that way. Unlike a Porsche or a Ferrari where every jackass ogles at you.

Same here! LA is not a very friendly place All that matters is that we love our rare little car.

This is what it's all about. It's always cool if people understand and/or appreciate my car -but- If I have to explain my car to someone, they'll never get it.

16 year olds and fan-boys get it!!

All I give a shit about is that I get it...And after driving a practical SAV for 3 years, I can't tell y'all how happy I am to be back in a passion car..

Almost, sadly forgot what that was like....

I've gotten quite a few comments...

Just this morning I went to the car wash and two employees there started talking to me about the car "Is that thing pretty fast? How many horsepower? That's a really nice car".

Last night I was out in the garage and a friend of the neighbor's kid comes over and says "Hey is this your BMW? My friend said there was a BMW on this street and I was like no way!" Which is weird because there are 4 BMWs on my street (one neighbor has an X3, another has a new X5 and new M4) Then he asks if it's an M3 and I tell him no, it's an M235i and he says "Oh I really like the M3 and M5." Ooookay.

I've also had random people in parking lots say "Nice car man, congrats!".

Interesting point. Now that I think about it, my M235i has received lots of looks from drivers driving various brands of performance cars. But, not one of them was driving a BMW. Not one. Fellow BMW drivers just stare straight ahead and ignore. Just last week, an M3 pulled along side at a traffic light. Both occupants totally ignored me. I was ready to give them a thumbs up if they had looked over.

I don't know, perhaps this is just a regional culture thing, but I'm getting the opinion that some BMW owners are snooty.

Not really. They're just pissed off and too embarrassed that they overpaid for theirs.
