Ordered '21 M240ix - no production # yet?
Hi, we just ordered a M240i xDrive on 26 Aug. and still waiting on a production number. Is this typical? (We also ordered an X5 the same day and got the production # right away) Thanks!

Wow, bummer... at least you have an allocation. That's a long time to wait.

So... your post got me worried so I reached out to the dealer to assuage my fears... the opposite happened!
Here is the redacted version: "So I checked on the status, and we are NOT underway with the build. We've submitted a request for an allocation, which is what was showing up. I've reached out to ####, the BMW Area Manager to help me expedite the allocation. As it shows for the moment, there are not any M240s being built for the US market at the moment. " I'm crying a bit inside. |

I was trying to order a M240i 6MT in Aug,a few dealers told me getting an allocation for 2021 230i/240i is still uncertain because the F22 is in the end of life cycle,
They actually advise me to wait for the 2022 M240i, but not sure MT option still available |

When I ordered mine in 2018, even then when we weren't in the middle of a pandemic and end of model run it took from January till July to finally get it. Even in the best of times it was hard to get a 2 series ordered / built.

I had been working my order for two months trying for an xDrive allocation. I was about to give up as all he had were allocations for a RWD. Then he said he found one at another dealer on August 4th and would have it secured by Friday the 7th. Well turns out that allocation was already sold. He finally talked me into trying out a 2020 M240 RWD on the the 15th and decided I was tired of waiting so I placed my order and gave him a deposit. Then I was on a motorcycle trip the following week and tried to contact him for an update (phone service is iffy in the western NC mountains). I received an e-mail that he had been assigned an allocation for an xDrive and did I still want it? Of course I said yes. The allocation was for an October build and November delivery. So when I got back from NC, I placed the order on August 24th and still have no production date. I called today and never got a call back. This is killing me.

FWIW, we live in FL and when the torrential rainfall and severe thunderstorms hit the all wheel drive will be nice to have.

We ordered one because we couldn't find one configured with what we wanted. The dealership manager searched all the dealers in the US and there weren't any. I actually started out looking for CPO 440i. I searched the entire country online for what we wanted and still no luck. Couldn't order 2020 440i coupe anymore either. We didn't like what they did to the front on new 4 series so that wasn't a player. My husband just retired and wants a daily driver coupe with a back seat. We wanted to stick with BMW but might have to look at something else.

Perhaps minimally. More/most benefit would accrue by taking the cost of XDrive and upgrading the hard compound OEM tires to some best in class rubber, and of course, staying below hydroplaning speeds (roughly the square root of the tire pressure x 10).

Same is happening for guys with the C8 Corvette on order. Many 2020 car allocations have not been started and GM announced that they will start build 2021's in November.
With Covid 19 still being front page news, the panic, the irrational political reactions, shut downs, etc., IMO this is not the best time to be thinking of ordering any new car. |
