If you have a good relationship with the dealership you can always ask for an upgrade. I almost always ask for their high-end cars and get them pretty much every time

That's crazy. Question though, were you driving it at least kinda rough without it being warm? I would think if the pump failed, the engine would cut power to prevent damage but wow!

If an oil pump is destined to fail, there's nothing that can be done. Thankfully these type of things usually happen within the first few thousand hours of running time, so in most cases, warranty eats the bill. Had an oil pump failure on a '12 GTI with about 30k kms on it, they put the new motor in within two weeks and back up she went.

lol, you have a brand new engine, so it's like a whole new car for you . Sad how a simple thing like a chain failure, or gear, which drives an oil pump can cause a total engine loss. The tolerances are so low on these newer engines, they leave no room for error. My GTI ran low oil pressure for abour 12 seconds as I pulled off of the highway, and it was done, instant rod knock...Back in the day I had a Rabbit 1.8 8v and I ran it dry three times, and overheated it twice to the point it wouldn't start. After repairing the issues, the engine was still strong, and burned no oil.

Have you considered extending your warranty?

A basic drive train warranty from BMW to go past 3 yr/36 to something like 6/7/8 100k isnt astronomical.......

If you go to the gold/platinum it starts getting waaaay up there.....4k plus

No manufacturer ever resets/replaces the Odometer when a motor is replaced/rebuilt

Mileage is measured/tracked on the chassis/VIN.

Ah, okay. So just subtract mileage at the time of replacement from current odometer reading.

In my experience ppl equate odometer reading to engine wear. Not much else. If you have proper paperwork I guess it doesn't matter much.
