I'm a Single Clutch Gearbox (SCG) guy myself and would not buy an automatic unless my left leg was not able to shift anymore but I have driven the M235i with the current automatic and I have driven M cars with it. My wife drives a Mk V GTI with dual clutch gearbox automatic. I liked the smoothness of the M235i transmission better than the both dual clutch boxes and it felt plenty quick on the shifts. There were many things I didn't care for in the M235 but the auto gearbox was actually a pleasant surprise for me. If the wife wanted a new BMW and the M235is auto was standard, I would have a really tough time paying $2900 for the DCT.
