Push button start delay?

I'm not sure if this should be in the technical forum or not, so feel free to move if necessary.

When I push my button to start the car (228i 6MT), there is around a 3/4 second delay between pushing the button and any activity from the starter. It's not a huge problem, but I can't help but think it should be more instant. It feels a little odd to be sitting there with my foot on the clutch waiting for the engine to start turning over. My buddy's E92 M3 starts immediately upon pushing the button.

Am I alone? Do other people have this delay? Does it bother no one else? I won't lose sleep over it, but if it's not supposed to be this way, I'd like to know.

There's a lot going on in the background when you push the start button. I wouldn't worry about it.

Four seconds seems rather excessive... I would have a service advisor look at it. I'm sitting here imagining. *Push button - 1, 1000, 2, 1000, 3, 1000, 4, 1000 - car starts* That's crazy. Anything more than one second and I would WTF it. My car and no other BMW with push start I've ever driven has taken more than a second to start.

Oh, no... not "3 or 4 second" delay. I mean "three quarter second" delay. Sounds normal, so that's good enough for me.

I think he said 3/4 second delay not 4 second delay. 3/4 of a second is nothing to be alarmed about in my opinion

Lol sorry. That is normal. It needs to check conditions for startup. I found I can even have the brake not depressed initially and as soon as I press the brake (within a second of pushing start) the car starts up. So plenty of thinking is going on.

My 335 is about 6/8ths of a second. The Z4 is maybe 5/8ths, but that car is way faster too.

You're probably safe.
