I disagree. The paint should be at least two months old before you wax it.

Most dealers will put some type of sealant on it during dealer prep.

Modern paints will cure within a week or so. Most cars arrive at dealers between 4-8 weeks after production anyhow.

I have never experienced a dealer putting sealant on pre-delivery, only a cheap detailing spray which will wash off and offers little protection against watermarks etc.

My dealer did a full detail.

The reality is you can wait until water stops beading up, but most of us don't wait that long.

If you take any of the badges off you should wax that area afterwards for sure.

A "detail" is a clean, not applying sealants etc.

With the new water based paints BMW use... after a month or two of the build date(check your build plate for month/year) - its fine to wax or use a paint sealant.

Most cars, even BMWs, come lightly swirled/marred at delivery. Even if the dealer put a high quality sealant or wax on the car, it is highly unlikely they did anything about the paint surface. The best thing you can do for the appearance of your car is a light paint correction to remove micro-marring once the paint is fully cured (30 days after production should be good). It will make a big difference in the appearance. You can then apply whatever paint protection you like. After that, only hand wash yourself with microfiber towels and don't ever let the dealer wash the car unless you want new swirls and micro-marring.

Too bad that your dealer doesn't know what a quality car wax is.

No dealer that I have ever experienced is going to wax a car as part of pre-delivery. Prepping and waxing takes a few hours! Unless you pay for paint protection etc, they will just clean it and apply some silicone detailing spray and tyre shine etc.

Please tell us who your dealer is that offers a full decontamination and wax service as part of pre-delivery. That's exceptional service

Wow!

Amazing how a simple question can get hijacked

As soon as you feel like it. Wax it until your heart's content. I wax my car once every two weeks religiously. I use Poorboy's World Black Hole over the entire car, then I go over it again with Poorboy's World Natty's Red Paste Wax . No swirl marks at all! Super glossy shine that lasts for weeks.
