$100k is seriously taking the piss. The M235i, heavily optioned should be around $95k. Its already at $89,990 before any options are even added. xHoon's price is about spot on at the moment. Obviously over time, BMW will drop the price and offer heavier discounts.

But it isn't just the govt swallowing all the profits, the manufacturers also get a healthy profit margin on their exports to Australia!
Their excuse is the us is a much larger market hence the lower prices... |

After much pushing around, I've placed my order for M235i.
Estoril Blue on Black (prefer Coral, but the wife says no) Sunroof Comfort Package Advanced Parking Package Well under $90k drive away. There is room for negotiation guys if you really push them.

Based on what I'm paying for my new order, you shouldn't pay more than $84k. Problem is that someone else probably will, so they won't discount it much.

They over inflate the figure to $100k if they sell it at $90 they the dealers are still making a profit margin anywhere from a min of 40% and up . factoring in the transportation and associated cost of running the dealership. That's per car, but the true p&l of the dealership varies based on other outlays, expenses, profits or loss from its various departments like used vehicles, servicing and merchandise (which is tiny, There are risk involve too, I have some stories or dealership staff defrauding the dealer and both BMW) Bmw dealers are amongst the most profitable from memory but their volumes are small compared to the likes of Toyota which have a much smaller profit margins but makes up for it in volume. It's been over 10 years since last audited one of those. But it's fair to say the volumes are much larger now given the nation has prospered and you have the Chinese migrants and students all driving luxury cars more so than before.

Hold on, so you're telling me that in Australia where the conversion of AUS to USD is roughly 1:1, a M235i is over 90k? How are you guys not revolting...that's absurd. I see minimum wage is almost $17 but still, a Camry is like $10k more than it would be in the States. Housing appears to be expensive as well. How does the economy even work????
Edit: Just looked up the cost of an S400 mercedes...nearly $250k. The S63 is over $400k!! That is beyond hilarious. In the States you can buy a 458 Italia and an M5 as a daily driver for that. Last edited by ScarecrowBoat; 08-07-2014 at 05:31 PM.. |
