My 2 week old car got christened today
Well I go my car 2 weeks ago and today it was christened. A guy backing out of a parking space hit the side of my rear bumper. Just a couple of scratches and I think part of the bumper might need to be repainted. Does anyone know if you can repaint part of a bumper or do you have to replace the whole bumper. Also, I got all of his info but did not file a police report. It's not much damage but it pisses me off. 2 WEEKS.

Hey at least it's just slight damage. A small bus rear ended me and the car was a month old.
Anyways, I'd have the damage looked at by a proper bodyshop. You never know what damage there could be underneath the surface. Also have the bumper fully replaced and repainted, you wouldn't want a half ass job done on your new BMW, right? I've also been in an accident before where a person bumped me and we did not file a police report. The guys insurance contacted me and let me choose from a couple different body shops and I got a loaner. Everything worked out great for me. Although I've heard of some horror stories where the person who hits you tells there insurance it was the other persons fault and then everything turns into a battle due to not having a police report. Hopefully that guy won't do that.... Good luck.

I am going to have a BMW body shop look at it that I've heard do a great job. The bumper has only cosmetic scratches so I'm not sure they will have to replace it. See if you can conclude anything from the pictures I have attached. Thanks.

Hmm.. scratch doesn't look too deep.. receive your funds for repainting the bumper and get yourself a scratch remover first.. damn I'm bad
P.S. Try QUIXX it works like a charm

Sorry to hear it. Painting the plastic bumber can be tricky. I had mine professional redone at thr dealer and a year later I can see almost what looks like "nail pops" on sheetrock. It looked perfect when I drove it off the lot.

Took it in to dealerdhip yesterday. $642 to have it repainted. They guarantee their work for life. Now with a $500 deductible I'm not sure it's worth going through the insurance.

You could probably buff most of those out... Get some touch up paint and your set. Why get a whole new bumper and risk it being misaligned? It will never line up perfectly compared to the factory.

you're less perverted than I. I thought some dude jizzed on his car.
All jokings aside, try to buff it out first, then bodyshop second, as suggested by other posters.

Tried buffing it out toady. It got rid of the light stuff but the deep scratches or tears are still there, you can see the black of the bumper underneath the paint. I know that I will probably get lots more scratches but being that the car is still only two and a half weeks old I have to get it fixed. Thanks for all the help.

^ try to get a good professional detailer to see if s/he can do chip/paint repair, at least get an assessment before you visit the bodyshop.
