yeah...modded cars are sick but is it worth the hassle
I love modding my car but it has gotten to the point where im fed up with it. Im not saying my car is a modded machine but here is my position. I am always worried about leaving it somewhere, scrapping out of parking garages, leaving it outside...etc. Its gotten to bother me so much that the car has had 30 miles put on it in the last two months. Another thing that bothers me is worrying about miles on it. Ive had it since January and it currently has 6700 miles and it just bother me when i see the odo go up. Should i just sell the dam car and lease something?
Im really thinking about leasing a car and just driving the hell out of it with zero problems. One problem i have that really took it over the top is one of my DPE's cracked so i had to send the wheel back to DPE. Another thing is the tires kept wearing on the insides when they were supposdely aligned and i went through two sets of tires in 4k miles.. |

i completely get where you are coming from... i have the worry of leaving my car anywhere, and scraping on driveways, ding in carparks etc... but, at the end of the day i love my car, and i enjoy driving it
we have a very cheap crappy car that we drive if we need to go to bad areas, so the bimmer is left safe at home, but when we are going out, or just for a drive, we can take the bimmer

I am with you on this "anal" shit. I have 1500 miles on my 335, and it is now 1 year and 3 weeks old. It's not a huge deal for me though, as I have a e46 330i that I don't mind driving a lot, and I also have a Volvo S60 (company car) which gets the bulk of my driving.
As far as my 335, I park about 1/2 mile away from other cars, I don't drive it in the rain (unless I have to, which is rare), I clean my wheels EVERY time I pull back into my garage, and I speedshine my car EVERY time I pull back into the garage. This is all just the tip of the iceberg as far as my "analness" is concerned.

fifteen hundred. I know, I get whipped by my friends all the time. I just don't drive it if it's crappy out, and unfortunately the wheather has been for shit in my area....for pretty much the entire year + I've owned my car. Maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but not that far off

Yeah sure you say its a 3 series, but i am SUuuure you care about your car and worry where it is parked or how it looks like the OP....I know for sure you treat and drive your car like its glass!!! Buddy its a 3 series but for some people its a nice car!!! I paid over 69 gees for a 3 series...You know its just a silly old 3 series....From the looks of your pics of your car, do you actually drive your only 3 series car!!!! I also bet every single time you drive your only 3 series car, you have to clean it or else you wouldn't be able to SLeep!!!! I love my " just a 3 series car" and i understand the OP mindframe....Hell i think i have a sickness for a clean car....If i only spent another 300,000 i could of bought a Porshe Carrerra GT

Don't do it man. I had a modified 2001 Audi S4 and I was so stressed about theft/turbo's blowing, etc that I sold it for a new Honda Accord and I was miserable.

A car is use for driving, not for storage in a garage. You may as well get something you feel comfortable "driving" with.

Excellence is a Canadian, I'm pretty sure thats kilometers
I have about 16k on my car that I bought in April... I bought this damn thing to drive, not look at. I mod it too. I figure worst case scenario, I'll pick up some sort of extended warranty a little bit earlier than I had originally planned... no biggie. Oh, and you want crazy mileage? My dad and I drive a taxi (I do part time, school full time). His 2002 Impala has over FIVE-HUNDRED THOUSAND on the Odo.

Well, I think some of comes from your choice in mods or what you did with the mods. Your car is/was so god damn low I can see why you worry about scraping all time. I can also see how it chewing up tires and cracking wheels could be related to your choice in ride height. Raise that thing up a bit.
It's a bit of a balancing act between performance, looks and, driveabilty when you get into modding a car. It's kind of easy to take it too far. When you get it right it's very rewarding though and you generally don't have to worry about too much stuff breaking. |

+1. A lot of modifications actually make the car worse to drive (particularly mods related to huge wheels and overly firm suspension). BMWs, particularly with ZSP, are set up extremely well at the factory. It's all about balancing visual appeal with drivability.

I actually have my e46 330i up for sell right now.....So I'll be down to my Volvo and my 335. I'll be driving the 335 a lot more. But I'm still going to park 1/2 mile away from everybody else!!
