Did anyone buy products in the finance office?
If you bought any of the products dealers offer in the finance office (warranty, lojack, gap ins, wheel & tire coverage, autobahn or clear bra) or anything else, please share what you bought and most importantly, why you chose to buy it. If you didnt buy anything, then what was your reason not to?

Did not buy any of it.
I was buying a new set of wheels and tires to replace the standard 335 sport setup so I would have an extra set in the garage. Don't see the need for an extended warranty or maintenance now. Maybe later. If BMW comes out with something that catches my eye in the next 4 years it's gonna get traded anyway. |

I talked the finance officer into giving me the maintenance kit(the car wash soap, wax, leather restorator, etc.) I think those goes for around $60? Other than that, I didn't get anything from them. I'll prolly get the extended warranty and maintenance later down the road.

NOPE.
I got pre-financing thru my CU and came with check in hand. I Zaino my own car, so no need for their exterior or interior wanna be stuff. Got GAP insurance thru my credit union for $250 and if I keep the car past the basis warranty, then I will pick it up then, or close to then.

After Market Options
Hey ..
I did buy the wheel, tire protection just because of their costs. Better safe than sorry AND I did buy the 6 ding replacements ... I am not sure THAT was a good idea, but at the time I thought it was, now I find out they are VERY picky as to what they will actually fix. But, I didn't buy the clear bra from BMW, I got it about 350.00 cheaper but I went with a guy with 15 years experience installing it. BE CAREFUL on this, alot of people get certified by 3M and they are NOT great at what they do. I found out the hard way. But, just get 10 references ... and check up VERY good .. as the clear bra is GREAT for protection. I am SOOOO glad I got this. I did the bumper (entire), hood, side panels, door edge, mirrors .. I think these things are a personal choice on what level of insurance your happy with .. ) I didn't buy the Extended Warranty as I drive VERY little and I think in 6 years, I will only put on 30,000 miles .. IF THAT, so the 6 year warranty I doubt will be so great for me. At any rate .. I'll deal with that when the time comes. I wish you the BEST OF LUCK ..

In general ALMOST everything that they offer, you can get better and cheaper elsewhere. OR they have such limitations that it is not worth getting. In general it is a way to recoup money lost in bargining the price, or make even more money off of the un-informed consumer.
The exception to this rule would be Lo-jack, and the tire warranty, but in California it is not offered (the tire warrany, that is).

Tire and wheel will pay for itself at times. Some people never get flats, but 1 18" runflat and one wheel (if you drive on poor roads) will usually take care of what you paid. Also, if you plan on keeping your car, the maintainence is a real no-brainer. Of course you don't have to buy that right away. It's personal choice really.

I didn't even go to a "finance office." I agreed to all terms (including financing terms) via emails, and when I went in for delivery he had the paperwork ready to sign. No extras, no hassling, nada. If you negotiate correctly, you can effectively avoid being put in an upsell situation. |

Bought the extended warranty at a negotiated price, and happy to have the peace of mind - passed on all else. If you're buying (like me) and not leasing, the transferrable warranty has real value to a potential buyer.
Everyone's comfort/risk level is different, but that's where mine is.

I complained about the extra $15 fee they added to the "Out the door" price we discussed and documented, saying I didnt have an extra $15 in my bank account. It became a 20 minute ordeal, and finally they took it off (they wouldnt explain what it was...). Anyway, she didnt offer me *anything* because she really though I didnt have a single penny more to spend |
