Armrest/Boot Power Sockets

I had to endure half an hour of whining yesterday on the chunnel when the brats couldn't watch a DVD... Kids of today. I blame the parents.

Anyway, the power sockets on my e91 only seem to be powered up when the engine is running - the manual says they should be on when the ignition is on.

I know it sounds daft, but ignition on is key in the slot, right?

Try key in slot then another press to get ignition on, no clutch pressed.

If you need a socket that's powered up all the time, you could buy the flashlight socket power adapter.

I bought one on Ebay a few months ago from someone in California- it's a genuine BMW part but not officially available in Europe.

Don't have the URL handy, but a quick search on the forums for "flashlight power" should do the trick.

I didn't realise that one was powered all the time...

Now I've figured out how to turn the ignition on (like greatbm says, key in slot, press start button WITHOUT depressing clutch) I'm happy.

I've mounted a four way splitter in the hazard triangle cubby in the boot (mine's an e91) and split off the boot socket to power my GPS. I thought I might want that to be permantently powered, but it doesn't take too long to get a fix.

I also have a powered cool box that'd be nice to leave running when the ign was off, but I could always connect straight to the battery (the coolbox has a battery charge sensor and will shut down if the battery's going to go flat).

I might fit one of those dual socket outlets in the back of the armrest that was posted somewhere...
