New e92 Barbera Red - Plasti-dip Whispbars Flush Installed

All,

UPDATE!
After the Plasti-Dip ripped off the bars, I bought some RustOleum Grey Primer and RustOleum Flat Black paint. I used GooGone to get everything off, then a mild detergent cleaner to wipe down everything. After an hour of masking everything off again (including the rubber strip), I did 2 coats of primer (1st light, 2nd heavier). Then I let the primer dry for 30 minutes and followed up with 4 light to medium coats of the flat black. After it was cured (24 hours) and the mask was removed, I could already tell this was going to be more durable.

I also masked off the end caps and painted 4 coats of the flat black to black out the Whispbar logo. That makes a world of difference as you can see below.

Also installed the BMW Performance Grills. I have the reflectors, but I park in the city so I have no access to an electrical outlet to use a hair dryer to install. Lastly, I will be painting the mesh grills gloss black to match the grill surrounds and the Shadowline trim. I think we'll be in business then :-).

This is the best rack I've ever used. At 80 MPH, I could hear nothing. Zip. Zilch. They are nice and low profile and honestly, I couldn't picture having these in the stock aluminum color. When I was test fitting them to get the proper bar width, it just made the whole car clash (especially with the Shadowline trim and such a dark exterior color). Hopefully, Yakima will offer them in black as an option moving forward but I'm not holding my breath.

I think they mis-badged those spots. Look at the space on each side, it's larger than most "normal" spots in Massachusetts. Plus, no one parks that far from the building so it's a win-win.

so many people in boston cant drive their compacts, they need that much room just to not hit the cars on either side pulling in

Agreed. The only times I've ever been tailgated at 80 MPH on Rt. 2? Smart Cars and Prius's. I though the Smart Car was going to lift off over the median.

Update: Don't plasti-dip your roof bars. Too much stuff going on/off will eventually cause some nicks. My cargo box put a few holes in the coating. Two days later, the whole thing blasts off as a single rubber sheet on the highway. I had 7 coats on these by the way and waited 36 hours to put them on my car to cure.

I'm doing it the right way with some aluminum primer and matte black paint. I don't want anyone wasting their time like I did.

Did the same thing to my rack and bike carrier. Plasti-dipped it then took it all off and used truck bed liner paint.

Very nice, but detail it. Show off this color to its full potential.

Agreed. That will be done after I do the reflectors and paint the mesh black this weekend. Also just ordered an M3 Lip spoiler so I'll be putting that on in a week or so when it gets here. That should be enough time for pollen season to finally end and the exterior mods to be done.

Yes defo detail it, It's a lovely colour. On a side note if you hand a couple tyres on the sides it will look like your car has headphones.
