Slight humming from the rear?

Hi, just noticed a slight humming coming from the rear of my 335i. Not to sure if it was the road surface or an early wheel bearing failure. Any ideas.

A friend of mine had this very same problem.. But he was told to wash more often, and the problem is almost non existant.

Try giving your rear a wash and see if the humming persists

On a serious note, i've had this before on a previous car and this does sound like a wheel bearing issue.

Mine Hummed on a new car and it's high pitched, it's the diff. Double check that.

Thanks for the replies. I am covered by warranty so I will get the car checked out. Can't hear anything during "normal town type driving".

A wheel bearing problem tends to give a 'wur-wur-wur' kind of a noise rather than a continuous tone.

Maybe a diff oil change will cure the noise.

How do you check the diff? Is this something that can only be done at the dealers?

Mine is under warranty and was done by the dealer. They did remove the seat and went for a test drive, it was obvious without the seat. Then they did some diagnostic. Since, its under warranty they decided to just change the whole diff unit.

My hum is high pitched and starts at about 50 mph. Its a very obvious sound you get from gears. I will be getting it replaced tomorrow. Parts finally arrived.

I'm more leaning towards uneven tyre wear. It's not hi pitched and as the diff has lost no oil I don't think it's that.
