Question Black car - Gunmetal wheels?

Thinking of getting my MV3 wheels refurbed to that slightly darker (maybe a light gunmetal?) colour that you see on newer le mans blue e90s - does anyone know the name of this colour?

Think it will look quite smart on my carbon black e90 - What you think?

Also, I'm assuming its perfectly possible to put the newer/nicer domed centre caps on older wheels? mine has the flat plastic bmw badge...

If you mean the colour fitted as standard to the M Sport Plus BMW describe it as 'Dark Chrome'. I have it on my Plus & it looks much better than silver

I've got the same dilema, I've got a set of MV3's, I need to get them refurbed, I thought I'll get them painted as well, they are stock colour at the moment, my car is Titanium silver, what coloured alloys would go best with my car ?

I can imagine, I'm parking so from the kerb these days, just in case, that driving schools keep putting flyers on my screen

On black I'm not a fan of dark wheels. Gun Metal might just be pushing it for me.

On silver I think this looks pretty good.

My opinion...

I think black wheels on a black car looks a bit too gothic for my liking and can borderline tacky, dependant on the wheel style/finish e.t.c.

I think black or anthracite wheels are best suited to Silver, White or the likes.

I agree, anthracite and especially black wouldn't look to my liking, but this "dark chrome" or "ferric grey" might look just right - hardly darker than standard but just a bit... different?

I agree, I wouldn't want BLACK black wheels on a black car but the BMW dark chrome (or ferric grey) looks good IMO.

Is dark chrome another name for hyper black?

What you want is "hyper silver" which is a sort of shiney, silvery, nickel type colour and probably another name for dark chrome.

I think hyper black is pretty much glossy, metallic and as black as it gets.

Thats the one! is that definitely Ferric Grey then? I like that a lot decision made!

Looks quite similar to Porsche Titan Silver:

But that paint probably costs more, and despite which if you're getting them done at a third party place like I will be doing, they probably don't use the exact paint anyway do they? just a close off-the-shelf version?

According to raf555 it is officially called Ferric Grey but in the 2011 3 Series colour brochure BMW describe it as Dark Chrome
