Heavy Feeling...
Is it me or do other people feel that this car is kind of heavy. I just drove a friend's 2004 325ci yesterday and it felt much lighter and nible. I have a 330i, which is fantastic, but the fun factor is a little lower than I expected. I'm still in break-in, but no matter how many miles I have on the car, the weight isn't going to change. Any thoughts?

I am not sure about the weight, but what I know is the newer car have computer to block some power, not let them come out so quick, so they can make the car goes smooth. And maybe that's why we feel the car is heavier. "I think." but not sure.

The weight differences are less than 100 lbs but given the power/torque of the new models it therefore makes no difference, in fact the e90 is faster by all measurable criteria.
Do you mean that when you toss it around in a turn it feels heavier ? |

I love the feeling of having a new car but I also hate it. My car has about 1500 miles on it now, during break-in period the car was not much fun to drive since first of all you have to be gentle with it, and second of all since the car was new, everything was very "tight". My shifter was clunky, clutch was tricky to operate and everything felt very very new so somewhat restricted. Now after 1500 miles the car is getting much better, it's becoming buttery smooth but not quite there yet, but from my personal experience ALL new cars are like this, at least the ones I had, that's why I hate having a new car.
Give it a couple of months/couple of thousand miles and I bet you won't want to drive your friend's "crappy" car anymore. |

Saying you "hate" having a new car sure makes you sound like a prick. Say you hate the "brake in" period, but never say you hate having a new car, that is unless you are a prick

Yeah, feels heavy. Definitely not like the cars of a decade or two ago. Remember when the magazines loved the new twin turbo 300zx except that it weighed in at a porky 3500 pounds? Same thing with the MKIV TT supra. Guess how much all the cars are weighing now? Every generation seems to tip in a couple hundred heavier.

My choice of wording might not be correct but I felt it correctly reflected what I was feeling inside. I feel that I hate it, but perhaps I'm just annoyed by some things. Either way I'm being honest, if that makes me sound like a prick then that's too bad, because I'm not. EDIT: I can get very obsessed with something that's new and perfect, in this case it's my car. I keep thinking about it even when I'm not driving it. "Is anybody gonna ding my door?" "God I hope I won't get any bird poop." "I gotta wash my hands before I leave work so I don't get anything dirty on my steering wheel." I wash my car every chance I get even if it's just a little dirty, I get nervous when I feel a clunk when shifting (I know it's a normal behavior since it's new but I still hate myself for it.) You may think that it's normal and everyone does it, but the problem is that I get TOO obsessed that I can't even enjoy the car or anything else in life, it's so precious that every mile I drive hurts me. Of course now I know to stop obsessing when I start, relax and just enjoy the car as a car. But that's why I "hate" having a new car. The point I wanted to show the original poster is that I know the feeling of having questions inside "My car is new so it's supposed to be perfect and the best thing out there, so why did this happen? Is there anything wrong with my car? Should I worry?" The answer is "No, just enjoy the car and drive it, it'll drive better and better as you put more miles on it." either i got usd to it, or now I just like to rev it all the time, take corners fast...I act like I am driving a mini cooper !! Definately feel way ligter than day one at the dealer... |

i think the heavy feeeling is definitely comes from the power adjustment when you first pedal the car. Do notice the rev meter stays at 500 at idle and what i notice is, it won't react until you step gas to pass the 1000rpm mark. At least that is what i believe the car is doing in D mode.
but after 3000km, i practically don't notice such effect anymore myself. Mabye I got used to it or i just MS mode too much, haha
