Possibly not. If the car is stood, just as you're putting it into first?

Hey, recently purchased a '08 320D MSport and noticed that the gear knob vibrated more than I was used to in previous cars. I would say it was normal but if you think it is excessive I would get it checked out.

Mine is certainly excessive but it only does it in certain circumstances and hasn't made me gnash my teeth yet so I'll leave it for now.

When I test drove a 320d se coupe recently, the gearstick was shaking just as youve described, and this was just sitting at traffic lights.
I asked the salesman about it and he says its normal lol.

YouTube search reviews of the 320d. Thy say that the extra gearshift vibration is caused by a lower idle, if I remember right... Or a lighter flywheel. Anyway, it's normal.

Perfectly normal!

At idle you can see it going back and forth by 10mm ether way, my car
is a 2010 320d also.

I remember someone say it was so bad it was going up their arm but I think
they were getting a touch melodramatic!

Seen this on a friends 123D too. He told me it's common to all BMW 4-pot diesels.

That's a worry as the 335i idles silky smooth.

I've had a couple of cars that do this .... does seem to be normal on some cars. So long as it goes OK and changes OK I wouldn't worry
