Check engine sign/power reduction???
Hey guys, I recently had this exact sign come up on my car,
I dont know what is wrong with it since I have now begun to loose power when driving it and have scheduled an appointment. I am hoping there is a quick fix, maybe I havent had enough anti-freeze or whatever the case may be. Any suggestion on a fix? |

do you drive a 335? loss of power could mean a lot of things, such as fuel injectors, fuel filter, fuel pump, turbo leak, etc. Anything that has to do with air/fuel ratio could reduce power.
As for your lack of antifreeze, you would notice an increase in temperature and your fan would frequently switch on. Do a thorough check up on your car: 1. Air filter 2. Mass air flow sensor 3. Oil level 4. Tread wear on tires (this wont trigger a CEL, but TPMS) 5. Fuel consumption 6. Leaks around the car 7. Anti-freeze level My suggestion is to buy an affordable handheld OBD scanner and leave it in your car in case things like this happen. Cheap scanners will read just only the code, and more expensive products will tell you exactly what's happening to your vehicle. GL Last edited by Hey Ant; 02-04-2011 at 12:46 PM.. |

my 330i recently had the same warning show up too so it happens to NA car too |

If it is an NA car.. I would still do the same procedure to could lead to any errors to air/fuel ratio, only if NoSurrender wants to save a few hundreds for diagnostics. It could be anything minor or severe.
Another case would be spark plugs.... It provides the spark to ignite the mixture of fuel and air. The plugs are required to ignite the fuel to start our motors, but once combustion has started, the fuel burns continuously as it enters the combustion chamber. Therefore, it could be a possibility that the spark plugs are not igniting the correct amount due to it's usage over the times of driving. |

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Sorry, i drive an 08 328i sedan. Any other possible suggestions or specifics?
Are there circumstances were the warranty would not cover etc.. but just curious if anyone has experienced this before. (also 328s do not have the temperature gauge, maybe its just mine) |

If you haven't done any mods to the engine, then your car covered by warranty. You wouldn't have to worry about asking around what the problem is because a CEL could mean anything to us and won't know what to tell you unless to take to the dealer and they will give you a definite answer. Only way to actually know if your car is overheating, if you have temperature gauge, is by listening to your fan if it constantly switches on.

there is a hidden menu to find out your engine temperature while you drive. Search the forum. The only thing is that every time you start your car you have to go trough the same procedure. Search the forum. I think is in the thread " things you didn't know about your e90"
