Unhappy Help! How do I remove my trunk lid? (E90)

Hey guys,

I need some serious help! I was in the process of removing my trunk lid when I ran into a real snag. I have no clue how the key cylinder comes out. I was able to remove the left and right bolt but that's as far I was able to get. I do see a plastic torx screw in the middle but I have no idea what to do with it. I've tried turning it but nothing happened.

Lastly, there are 2 cables that run to the rear license place light. How are those lights removed?

Better yet if someone can point me to a trunk lid removal DIY I'd greatly appreciate it! I can't seem to find one anywhere :/

Thanks!

TonyP

You need to pop-off the plastic cover on the front .. if that makes sense ... then the whole thing should slide out.

plastic cover?? As far as I can tell its one whole piece.

I found this link with pics but it still doesn't tell you how to disengage the lock.

Yes, there's no DIY for trunk removals.

Please, does anyone have experience removing the lock mechanism?

my friend, you're lucky I just took off my trunk last week
First, pop the license plate lights so you can unplug the two wires. (Push them with a flat screwdriver towards the middle of the trunk and they should pop off allowing you to disconnect the wires. You also have a small wire that connects to the "handle" of the trunk, the one where you use a bit of pressure to tell the car to open the trunk when your car is unlocked. It's all clips so take your time not to break them.
The plastic cover that the other members are talking about is what you see from the outside of the trunk covering the key hole. Just apply so pressure with a screwdriver from either sides toward the middle and it should come off. Also, look at the mechanism of the key mechanism work. You should be able to disassemble the plastic gear looking piece, which will allow the whole thing to snap out.
Let us know how you did and post some pics of the new trunk
