Cheap Car Shipping?
Hey all - I am moving from Halifax, NS to Columbus, OH for school and need to get my car there. I may do the drive, but its 24 hours, and with unpredictable December weather - I'm looking for other options. My next option is to drop the car off in Bangor, ME and have it shipped from there.
Any recommendations? Has anyone shipped their car before? Anyone have experience with driveaway services? Thanks! |

ive shipped 2 cars and 2 bikes had my bmw shipped from newyork. used uship.com post it up ppl will bid on the shipping its sort of like ebay but they start on high price and move down. but make sure you read there feed backs and dont get over charged wait a day or two and someone that has empty room on there truck and is on that route can pick it up for dirt cheap.
and take photos of inside and out side of the car if you are shipping it by anyone |

Its a Canadian car - I will be driving it across the border myself. Will be there for around 4 months. And I am a US citizen. Not sure about the limits as to how long you can legally keep an out-of-state car without transferring plates...

Accordingly, you'll need to get your license transferred. Thereafter you will need to import your car to the US according to this document http://www.nhtsa.com/cars/rules/impo...da01192007.htm Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. As an alternative, you'd have to prove that your primary residence remains in Canada - tough to do if you ship your car rather than driving it the 1200 miles - especially if you drive it 450 miles in order to bypass customs issues. |

You've got to work for the government.... With visiting home (toronto), I'll probably be out of the country once a month. So I should be able to avoid breaking any laws... I will most likely end up driving myself, I doubt this is a serious issue. My brother attended school in the US and kept his Canadian car with no issues... Thanks for all of the info though! |

You should also be prepared to be stopped frequently. Once the cops see you there for an extended period they will be looking to make sure that you're feeding their coffers. Don't be annoyed with me. I'm giving you the legal requirements. I didn't make this stuff up. You're responsible for the consequences of not complying. |
