Snow Tire update

I go to school up in Ithaca NY and we just got our first batch of snow. After Thanksgiving i mounted some blizzak snow tires on my 18''. I was nervous that the 18''s would create a pancake-like condition because of the low profile and width... I found some parking lot on campus that hadn't been plowed yet and had some fun, not as much fun as i wanted to because with the combo of xdrive and snow and ice tires made the car stick like glue and stopped quick as well. And then I saw some fool with an sti with performance tires fishtailing up south hill... that made my day

South Hill eh? Sounds like an ICer to me.

I always figured the best test for winter tires was whether you could make it up or down State St. before it's plowed without crashing into the Commons.

Actually, there's a pretty steep, twisty hill on Pleasant Grove Rd, on the back side of Bebe Lake/Falls Creek that gets ridiculously icy in winter. I once followed an A4 up that hill in a snowstorm and had to do some fancy driving in my Subie to avoid him as he spun out about 2/3 of the way up the hill and almost lost it into the gorge.

Negative. I'm still driving the same Subie I had in law school (for which I went to Cornell). My E90 purchase will be made in January, in time for a late-April ED.

There are definitely some good roads for driving up there too- or, at least there would be if there weren't so many ridiculously slow drivers.
