moving out of US, sell e92?
hey i just want to get some opinions from ya'll. i just purchased a 2007 CPO e92 335i last month . this month i found out that i'll be on a 2 year out and back to perth, australia starting next may .
should i sell my car? now? later? should i try and get 2 years added to the CPO warranty and just let it sit and depreciate for 2 years? either way i'm losing money i know. if i keep it for 6 months, i want to enjoy it so i'm gonna pickup some rims and other mods . australia is a right hand drive country so importing for 2 years is out of the question afaik. what would you do? |

I would sell it. You can probably get pretty close to what you just paid for it. If you get the extended warranty won't it just all be wasted with the car sitting around for 2 years?

ya, i'd still have to eat the sales tax. i was thinking about the warranty just so that i could actually have a warranty left on the vehicle when i return to the US. i'm not sure how much the dealer would want for the add'l 2 years of coverage.

Being an 07, your car's already had its biggest depreciation hit. I'd just keep it. Put it in a garage, maybe have a close friend/family member check on it once in awhile/whatever.
Since you won't be driving it, she'll stay pretty much new. No use buying a brand new car all over again and having it depreciate $10K as soon as you drive it off the lot. + being a CPO you've got 6 years 100K. Just drive it for a year or two when you get back then sell it just in time for the next gen 3'er.

Take it with you find out the laws for having a US spec car there. Hell most of there cars are GM anyway. You might not have to change anything are just get some floor jack stands and put it in storage.

what is your payment?
(Payment amount+insurance) X 24 months = ??? You have to decide if that amount of money is worth it to keep something you won't be using. And don't forget to add storage fees to that too. If you sell, you'll take a loss, but is that loss less than payments and storage for 2 years? |

you'll probably get hammered on the resale. the moment you drove it away it went down...by a lot. Doesn't make sense, i know, but that's just the way it is. If you really love it can you afford to keep it garaged somewhere? Tough call. Have fun in Australia!

it's no point simply because the car will depreciate like crazy over the 2 years he will be gone. Sell it now and get what you paid for it, or close, before it's too late. When you come back you'd probably be able to get something better.

You can cancel insurance at any time and get paid out your remainder.
If you drop insurance, and DO NOT drop your registration, you will be sent a nasty letter from the DMV and have to pay a fine. You can't drive a LHD car in australia, so you can't container it over. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-_...t-hand_traffic I would sell. If your car sits for 2 years, it will have problems. Fuel will turn to crap in your fuel lines. Oil will drain completely and you will have rust issues near the top of your engine parts. Usually, for long term storage (multi-year), you want to : 1) pull your spark plugs out, flood the engine with oil. (maybe flood oil under valve cover too) 2) from an empty tank, fill your fuel tank TO THE TOP (keeps moisture out) with fuel + long-term-storage-appropriate-stabilizer. 3) Put the car up on blocks, so the tyres are completely off of the ground. 4) Disconnect the battery, and be ready to buy a new one when you're back. 5) Cover the car with some sheets. 6) Put a de-humidifier in the room with the car, let it run all the time, with a hose drain to somewhere. -scheherazade Last edited by scheherazade; 11-10-2009 at 04:27 PM.. |

thanks guys. i think i'm going to keep it until i move. i have family here in houston that can help with the sale even if i'm gone. i can justify the depreciation that will occur over the next few months just from the personal enjoyment alone, plus i already lost the sales tax.

more like the pontiac g8 is a watered down version of that.
good call on keeping it till you leave. 2 years of depreciation would be a lot. sell it, save the money, and when you come back you can use the money for an 09 or something else.
