Bank Holiday Monday: Car Detail

Well as its a day off, and a day off from the miswah (She's got food poisoning ) I was at a loss for what to do, so decided to get the car clean.

I know theres been 40 car cleaning topics recently? Am I bothered?

Do anyway, Didn't think about doing a full writeup till I was almost done, so not a vast array of pics of the during, but got a couple from before to show, and alot from after

Car has done almost 3000 miles since last clean: (6 weeks)... Horrible state:

DIRRRRRRRRRRRTY:

So out came all of the supplies to get to it:

Stage 1, Car shampoo. Used meguires lambs wool wash mit, car shampoo (not sure on the brand) and then a sonus drying towel. Only one bucket in shot, but don't worry, there were 2.

Stage 2, Poorboys world Professional Polish. A very light cut, just trying to get rid of some swirl marks. I did the bootlid, back bumper, front bumper and skirts. My doors and rear quarters are quite bad and I have chosen not to keep hand polishing them as I don't know the paint density. I'm waiting to get a G220 on them and get them done once, properly, and well. They are swirled to hell at the moment. Fine when I got the car, god awful after BMW did some warranty work on her. In future I'll make sure to always leave a note "DONT CLEAN ME"

Stage 3 was the Poorboy's world Natty's paste wax. This was applied everywhere. I did not clay on this occasion as I didn't have time. The car still never been clayed so again once the machine polisher has gone around, I will do a full full detail and then document every step.

Stage 4 was to focus on the wheels. I used Poorboys all use wheel spray which is a degreaser and very very potent. Don't breath this stuff in. It took 3 coatings with 5 mins then rinse off, before the wheels looked good. They were fucked.

Stage 5 and now I seal the wheels with Poorboys wheel sealant (the pink stuff). Rub on, leave for 10mins then buff off with a microfiber towel. The performance 18s are a nightmare to seal, took about 2 hours to clean and seal all 4 wheels (Although there was the odd tea brake and making sure the girlfriend was still alive up in the bedroom)

Stage 6 and finally I spent a bit of time on the interior with the liquid leather It smells like sex (I'm into bondage). Love it.

During the wheel treatment:

And after

Hope you like

Too bad - you just did. Whip the wheels off and get the hammerite out - it's the ideal opportunity to get the insides of those wheels sparkling as well!

Majority of the problem on mine is the discs themselves though.. Any recommendations?

Looks fab - good write up

I love the look of my M 18's as well, but hate cleaning them. 2 hours to clean / seal them, wow....does the seal actually work and for how long?

A quick spin - that'll take the thin layer or rust off that appears after washing. Also a good way to get rid of any drips that appear after you've finished.

Well it really stops the brake dust settling but ideally you want more than one layer on. I'm going to try and get another layer on this week too.

It means a quick sponge and their back to new, in theory. So should be 2 min job next time. Jet hosing will remove it a bit though, so hand wash only.

Used to work very well on my old peugeot

Red Dot. Know them well, half hour away on a clear run and will refresh the map for free after service work

Nice job you've done there.

Hope your wife is feeling better.

Btw - I always reverse up and drive the drive a couple of times to clear the discs. In fact now I have to otherwise Porsche brakes stick on and I mean STICK. Always did it with the BMW's and whatever else I had. Have been told it can reduce premature wear of the discs.

I do that too - people always look at me funny if I'm driving back and forth in the garage... it's worse when I'm on race pads though - the squealing from the pads and discs is unbearable!!
