Launching a Steptronic

Do any of you Steptronic owners try to get that little extra out of a quick launch by gently revving the car whilst holding the brake, then letting go?

Does it work for you?

I have never tried it as I am happy with my car's lauch capabilities but I was just wondering. Just a thought.

Why put extra stress on the torque converter unless you're stoplight racing and your honour is on the line?

my mazda rx8 salesman told me that your method was the best way to get a quick launch with a auto box. not tried it personally. with a manual, u could shave off 0.7 sec for your century sprint. anyway, i guess u like the step.

I've done it a couple of times. It definitely gets you off the line quicker. DSC/DTC off, left foot firmly planted on the brake, rev to about 1500 (I haven't tried any higher out of fear), and let 'er rip.

Yes, of course switch off the Dxx modes as well.

So it does work. Interesting.

The reason I haven't tried it is the same as your reason and also not wanting to stress out the torque converter.

But maybe once in a while on a clear day without traffic......

it works, but I'd suggest you stay away from doing so unless, like Visor said, your honor or life depends on it

yes brake torquing is the best way to launch an automatic car but as mentioned its very straining on the torque converter. Although, I believe most car mags use brake torquing repeatedly in their performance tests/articles
