the M35i that I ordered is finally arriving soon. can my 838M wheels fit?(for winter)

so... the M35i that I ordered is finally arriving soon. The CA emailed this morning and said the ship was somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean, with ETA at dealership around 2nd week of January.

Well, it's not my M35i anymore. I originally ordered it to replace my X1 xDrive28i, but I came to my senses and transferred the order to a family member. We did add the optional wheels, so the M35i order had just the plain 19" M wheels with all season tires.

He lives in Upstate New York and will absolutely need a set of winter tires.

If I give him the 838M wheels currently on my X1(see pic below), will they fit on the M35i? He'll just have to buy 225/55R18 winter tires for those wheels.

It will give me the perfect excuse to buy a new set of 20" wheels for my X1. Since I can get away with summer tires at least 8 months out of the year, that's what I'll probably get. (Michelin Pilot Sport 4S comes to mind)

exactly what I'm trying to find out.

the parts guy told me "probably not" because of the bigger brakes... but then again, he also once told me that Thule rooftop carrier would not fit on BMW's own roof racks.

having 19" on the car now, there's about a half inch of gap between caliper and wheel.

I think they'll clear, but it would be a little too close for comfort to the wheel for my liking.

If a rock gets in there, would do some damage to the inner wheel.
