Sat in 4 different types of BMW seats today.
Had a very interesting opportunity to sit in 4 different seats offered by BMW while my car was at the dealer today. Here's some of my impressions.
1. Normal 4 series seat w/ Tacora Red Vernasca Leather - This is my car (M440i GC). As weird as this sounds, when I first sat in it after trading in my M340i (Black Vernasca Leather), it immediately felt like the seats in the M440i GC were softer. I don't understand how this is possible as I believe the cars have the same seats in them. Anyway, this is my reference point. 2. M sport seats w/ Black Merino Leather (M4Cx) - I was expecting these to be significantly more comfortable, but they didn't really feel any softer than the regular seats in my M440i GC. They were very well contoured and the leather felt soft, but it wasn't anything to really write home about. I distinctly remember these seats being significantly more comfortable than those in my M340i when I sat in them a little over a year ago... but this is not the case compared to my M440i GC seats. It's odd. There was more support in the center of my back, and they were bolstered way more than the normal seats in 3/4 series. Again, I was surprised. I expected more. 3. Carbon buckets w/ Black Merino Leather (M3C) - Bro... I get why people love them so much now. They are so freakin COOL!!!! But could I live with them? I'm not sure. They are comfortable, but the carbon hump on the side would get annoying fast. In this case, as cool as they are, I preferred the regular M sport seats. These things hold you in like a glove. You're in and you don't have a lot of room to move. These would be fantastic on a track, but I couldn't really see myself living with these. 4. Full Merino Smoke White seats ('23 760i) - By far the most comfortable. Plush like a pillow. I would probably fall asleep in these... and the tech/crystal design in this car is just mind blowing. But that's not the point of this thread. Has anyone else had a chance to sit in the different seats on offer by BMW? What were your impressions?

As for the tech and design in the new 7 series, it was staggering. I felt like I had been teleported to a new world. BMW's crystal design in this car is absolutely gorgeous and really elevates this car above other cars in the industry design wise. It's new and very eye catching. I personally love this design direction by BMW. They really need something to set themselves apart from their competitors in the interior space, and this really does it. It's amazing.

Why does the new 7 series get that flat bottom wheel and the rest of the model line doesn't? I saw one at the dealer when my car was getting serviced. It has the flat bottom and it's chunky like the normal M models

And yes.... the flat bottom steering wheel is gorgeous and has no business being in a big ass luxury sedan over something like an M3.

Same observation from me. Had a '21 M440 with the M sport seats, switched to a '23 M4CX with M sport seats. Slightly softer / nicer leather, noticeable difference in bolstering that holds you just fine even for spirited driving. Carbon buckets are cool but if you're not tracking the car regularly I could not see myself living with them for a daily driver.

I’ve sat in an i7 recently. The seats in that car are on another planet. Best seat I’ve ever sat in IMO.

I had similar experiences as you. Sat in all of the seats minus the new 7 series. The carbon buckets are wonderful to look at but terrible to use, especially getting out of them. I can see myself getting frustrated when I’m late for something and the seats pose an unnecessary challenge.
Also the M sport seats and the carbon buckets both do a great job of holding you in during spirited driving. The bolsters on the carbon buckets do give you more of a cocooned feeling but the lump in the middle gets annoying when you’re braking it as it hits your thigh. |
