Anybody know what's going on with the tow hitch option?

It's listed in the order guide for November 22 but isn't available on the website. I'm about ready to put an order in, but kinda waiting on this.

One dealer I spoke to said BMW needed to get some kind of federal tow hitch approval. Anybody know if that's true?

"federal tow hitch approval" yeah, right....

my dealer had no problem putting the tow hitch on the order, but they made me acknowledge that by doing, the X1 will lose the automatic tailgate kick-to-open function.(which is perfectly fine by me)

tow hitch is available when building an x1 in the order system. Not sure why it's still not listed on bmwusa.com

It’s also only available with the X-line trim package, not the MSport. That was the one thing our build was missing.

I see on the etrailer website, they have Draw Tite hidden tow hitch. Has anyone installed this one yet? If so, how hard, modify the heat shield? Any updates?

Just ordered mine, will get it installed in the next 1-2 weeks on my MSport and report back. Got the same model hitch a few years ago for my '20 x1 MSport and UHaul did the install for ~$100 issue-free.

Very interested in this as I have an M-Sport on order and am disappointed in not being able to order the tow hitch. Please let me know how this goes. Also, do you know if this will disable the kick to open feature for the tailgate?

A couple of things.... the companies told me this:
DT hidden hitch - must cut the heat shield according to e-trailer.
Stealth hitch - even though have not made hitch for 2023 - the kick to open would still work.
So really want to hear from Jishman what you have to do to install the DT hitch.and if the kick to open still works. As this hitch is available right now and not months away.

I've got the tow hitch option fitted to mine, brilliant piece of kit and well worth the factory option. It comes with all the frills software as well. You can reverse the trailer/caravan just by using the touch screen, you guide where you want it to go using your finger and the car does the rest.

Too bad we don't get that tow hitch in the states, we get a different version, and it's not compatible with M Sport.

does the kick thing still work to open the boot?
