asking for my 80-year-old mom. is X1 easy to drive and park in NYC(Manhattan/Queens)?

asking for my 80-year-young mom. I'm no longer buying the X1... but she decided that she wanted one, after hearing me talk about it for the last few weeks.

so, here's the question:

is the X1 easy to drive and park in NYC(Manhattan and Queens)? any X1(current or previous-gen) owner from there?

she goes there several times a year in her current Lexus RX... not that long, but does make finding parking spaces a little hard. I figured that the X1 being about a foot shorter would make parking easier?

thanks!

Garage List
It would definitely be way easier to park than an RX. The RX is - what - 193" long, vs. the X1 at 177". My 3-Series, which is a compact sedan, is 182" long. Plus, if your mom springs for the Premium Pkg, having the surround view camera is amazing for parking.

My mom is old school and she backs into parking spaces without turning her head... only looks at the mirrors and definitely does NOT look at the backup camera screen. Same thing with parallel parking. Somehow she can parallel parking by only looking at the rearview mirror and it always freaks me out if I'm in the car.

So.. yes, she will get the premium package, only because she insists on the better stereo and HUD.(don't ask me why) But I seriously doubt that she will use the surround view camera.

It's weird, while it is only 177" in length, it feels much much larger and thus harder to maneuver. Maybe it's the increased width and height? visibility is good but it does not feel like something i'd want to drive in NYC. Somehow my 3 series which is 185.6" feels easier to park. Just my opinion though.

I believe parking assistance (not the pro version) is included in the base model. So that should help a little bit.

Parking assistant - is the self parking feature. Can someone who took delivery stateside confirm that this is included without the addition of any packages ?

From the builder the only way to get it is by adding the Premium package.

an update: I tested the X1 again yesterday. I deliberately tried to park in tight parallel parking spaces. Yes, it's definitely weird that the slightly smaller new X1 is actually a little harder to park than the current X3. The visibility out the windows were great, but it's like I can't "feel" where the corners or wheels were in relation ship to the cars in front and behind me, or where the curb is. Very puzzling.
