Storing factory open diff
I replaced the original standard differential (7599411) with the M Performance LSD and decided to keep the one from the factory just in case. Right now it is sitting in a sealed trash bag inside a cardbox box (with some padding). What is the best way to store this long term? I'm pretty sure it has some fluid in it still (as in not all of it has leaked out) and its fairly heavy.
Right now it is stored horizontally with the silver part and opening up. Do I need to clean it, drain it, or do anything else with it? I'm guessing it is going to go in the crawl space for the rest of my life unless the M Performance one fails so this may be an exercise in futility and I should have just left it at the dealer. |

Look for VCI bags. Might be hard to not buy them in bulk, but they prevent outside vapors from being introduced into the bag and should work just fine. With all the drain plugs in, all you really need to worry about is surface corrosion. Store in a dry place.
