My Allocation Got Pushed to Fall 2022 =(

Hi all - earlier today received a call from my dealership and was told that my original allocation for a '22 Xdrive M3 scheduled for April / May delivery has been pushed to October / November 2022.

I'm gutted to say the least. I had the chance to get a RWD and skipped out thinking AWD would be around by end of this year and now looking towards the end of '22 is a pretty darn long wait.

I called around multiple dealerships and many of them are not even selling to people out of state. To those who were willing to work with me wanted to charge close to $15k$20k over MSRP. Not a chance I do that.

I was; however, able to find a Porsche dealership that has one '22 Macan S / GTS available and I am thinking of going with that instead of an M3. Delivery would be February.

I don't track cars or anything of the sort, it would have been my daily.

Macan S specc'd out was just a few thousand dollars cheaper as well.

What do ya'll think?

Can I realistically wait another year? Perhaps, but quite honestly not sure if I want to.

Leaning towards it, just didn't want to make an irrational decision without hearing what others think and get some solid advice from ya'll who would potentially be biased too =)

I considered a Macan. Would you consider an X3 M or M550 xDrive?

Yes, looked into X3Ms. I think I would consider it. I could order one and have it within 6 weeks I was told.

I do like the size of the Macan far better though.

Price between the two is similar.

Macan may hold its value better, maybe? Not 100% sure. And I believe Macan also slightly better on gas, not by much.

Everything else I think X3M beats the Macan.

As for the M550i's, just never been a fan of the 5 series personally, so probably a no-go on that.

Wow, yea, I'd be crushed too if my car got pushed back that far. I hope something works out for you, Porsche or otherwise.

A fellow inter fan!

If I were to have to choose, I'd honestly want a 2-door coupe. M2, Cayman, etc... However, I can't afford a weekend toy + a practical car, so I needed a jack of all trades really. Ultimately, that's why I settled for the M3 w/ xDrive.

I'll be in Michigan for a few years, I had to relocate for work and I skipped out on the RWD M3 for xDrive to deal with the winters here in the midwest.

I'm okay with an SUV if it's not massive. No X5s, GLE's, etc... That's sort of why I gravitated towards a Macan.

Maybe Audi RS3? But the used models are far overpriced right now and '22s are a while away.

When it comes down to it, the M3 is what I want. Can I hold off for 1 more year? I mean, I technically could. But I honestly don't want to. A year is just too long and gut tells me an LCI will be right around the corner when that becomes available anyway.

My sales rep actually said I have a good shot of getting any car, driving it for a year and most likely selling it back to very close to what I purchased it for based on what's going on with the market. But at the end of the day, they're salesmen. No clue what BS he's feeding me =P

I would strongly consider working with a broker and try to get what you want. If you're willing to pay $1k over, they will likely find you someone in a month or so. You do have to keep on them given how tight things are.

Try over on the lease hackr forums, they get allocations trickling in now and again.

Also, call around to multiple dealers in more remote markets, ideally certified M dealers that get allocations. Tell them you are specifically looking for an allocation and that you are willing to put money down.

Solid advice is to buy a local car off the lot, and order your dream machine. Who knows, you may not even like the car by the time your ordered car delivers, or youll be ready for something else. And like they said, youll still be able to drive it, all year, and sell it for about what you paid for it.

I'm sorry but this sounds impossible. I don't see how they could push it back that far with an allocation.

Buy a car off the lot. Gotta to be a dealer in this entire country that will sell it at sticker. Don't call Florida,CA call BMW of Arkansas or South Dakota

Yeah, not to doubt the OP, but this sound dubious. If you have an allocation, then that means your dealer is able to place a production order. You may not see the car until the Spring, given current delays with production and some parts (e.g. radio modules) that have been holding cars up at US ports, but BMW has not even formalized changes for 2023 yet, so it's awfully hard to believe that they would defer a production slot until next Fall. Were you ordering some highly-customized Individual options or something?

All that said... if there's a Porsche in your budget that's available sooner, I wouldn't hesitate to do that. Good luck.

If you had an allocation then it would have a build week. Perhaps you were just on their waitlist? Buy the Porsche.

Sorry, yes, wrong terminology.

I had put a deposit and built out the spec on a wait-list which they had originally informed me I was 6th in line and looking at a March/April/May or so delivery.

As of yesterday, I was informed it would most likely be next fall.

To those saying to call around, I've called as many as I could. I've gotten similar answers:

1) We don't work with anyone outside of the state due to current car shortage

2) There is a mark up on MSRP, and usually its a massive mark up. A dealership in Sarasota wanted to sell me a $88k specced car for $115k. No chance in hell I will do that.

I'll try lurking the LeaseHackr forums to see if I can peel one off or maybe find one on swap a lease, take over the lease and just change it to a finance after taking over the lease.

Oh I know, there are a few by me that have them too.

Most likely would want one in Brooklyn Grey, that color on an X3M is absolutely gorgeous.

I will try to keep calling as some have suggested, but based off of many conversations as I have mentioned, I'm doubtful.

Question becomes do I go for an X3M or Macan S/GTS?

PM me if you're interested. I have connections with one of the largest BMW dealer in Houston, TX. I gave away 2 allocations to fellow forum members yesterday (originally it was one) and they were gone in an hour. They sell at MSRP and work with out of state buyers. I don't profit from this at all, just a middle man.

You may know this already but a GTS will be pretty much impossible to come by, that's what I was led to believe anyway.
