If memory serves, it works but only if you leave the gear selector in neutral.

Youre not dreaming and I have actually been waiting to hear a follow up on this. Apparently it was a glitch in which 6MT owners were able to order it but then BMW patched the glitch as it should have not been available on 6MT

I still have it, but I don't think it'll be available again.

You would think it would need some sort of clutch override switch so the clutch doesn't need to be pressed to get it to start in addition to being in neutral. Haven't driven a manual in a while, thinking every single one I have driven required the clutch to be disengaged to start the engine. Is this not the case on a G8x?

It is, but since the car has a gear position sensor and not just a reverse light switch I think they allowed the bypass since the car can confirm that it is in neutral. I have no idea if the car will remote start say if the sensor is in a failure state, but I bet it wouldn't.

Not sure, but from recent comments it might now be available to purchase separately. I used it today when the car had been sitting in the sun for a few hours. It was nice, the engine was up to temperature and the cabin was pleasant.

Where are these comments? I'd like to dig more into it as mine is coming and I live in cold weather

It was on sale in connected drive for a while, finally was taken down for 6MT cars with a statement along the lines that it was accidental. I don't know if anyone else with a 6MT checked in the store recently.

Funny this topic has come up. Literally just got a phone call from some exec representative at BMW USA, regretfully informing me that the feature was put on the store in error (hence taken off later), and there are 22 VIN numbers in the USA that purchased the feature for 6MT. And now they're calling all of us to inform of a refund and an upcoming software update that will *remove* the feature.

Sucks. Has worked fine for me for the last 2 months. I gave the guy a hard time at least, asking for whatever other goodwill they can offer for this mistake. He'll "look into it". I'm certain he doesn't have the power to leave the feature with me.

Followed by an email from them saying all the same, and providing pdf with instructions for how to activate a new update that removes the feature.....ugh.

That is so strange and stupid. If the car is capable of it, it works, and you paid for it, what possible reason is there to rescind it? Would it potentially cause some sort of mechanical issue BMW doesn't want to have to cover under warranty? Or is this more a question of marketing and they're saving the feature for a time that will make them more money?

That's either unbelievable or hilarious. A team of programmers wrote it, matched it against the components of the car, some approval process made it available for download, and listed in their online store. And the suggestion is that entire time not a single actual mechanical engineer or guy away from a computer gave it a whirl?

It's happening, Skynet is real.

My guess is that it is available some places but not in the USA. Most likely for liability reasons or some federal law.

I am still waiting for my 2021 M4 MT and it had that feature listed in the specs until a few weeks ago.

I was looking forward to having that but I expected it to go away because there is an older post about this being a mistake to have it included in the US MT spec'd cars and phone app.

Isnt there a way to get this coded in somehow since the car technically has it?
