M240i cabriolet vs or M440i cabriolet
Im potentially in the market for a cabriolet and am confused between the M240xi 2021 or the M440xi 2021.
I like the looks of the 2 series and the "old schoolness" of it with analog gauges but dont like the fact that it doesnt have the modern features such as blind line monitoring, remote car start (live in a cold area), etc. The new 4er has all these but im sort of forcing myself to like the looks of the car and feel like the grills are not fully blended with the car and overall the car looks like asian manufactures design than a more bmw oriented. I am unsure if the design will grow on me. Any opinions you guys have would be appreciated! |

Thumbs down on the pig nose M440xi. Good luck, though, finding a leftover M240xi. I saw a few recently on cars.com. 440 faster, probably better ride than 240 but more $$$$.

I think the 4 series cabriolet is a very good looking car. The way the headlights squint the grill looks refreshing and new and the side profile is very shapely.
If it were 2:00am on a rainy Sunday morning I know I'd be very happy taking a 240 hardtop coupe out to play with. I have no idea what the 2 series cab is like to drive. If I were going to to a 100 miles each way trip up the interstate at 12 mph over the speed limit I'd probably prefer to be in a 4 series |

Edit: Nvm, now that I think about it 2021 440i have the upgraded b58TU I think which makes about 50 more hp. But again, its larger and heavier so, I won't be surprised even with the upgraded engine that the 2 series is still faster. |

Ah yes there is that lol.
Here is a point for OP to consider. For daily use, you are going to spend more time inside the cockpit and actually using whatever function that comes with it than actually looking at the design of the car. |

I've had my M235 convertible for nearly 5 years now and no one has ever ridden in the back seat. As such, if I had to replace it with another BMW, I'd be heavily leaning toward the Z4 M40 instead of M440i. While I don't hate the look of the M440i vert, it's just so BIG. In my mind, the only feature I think the M440i has over the Z4 is a slightly larger trunk. I do really like the new M4 convertible, but for that money, I think I'd rather look at a newish Boxster S or GTS or slightly older 911 Targa 4.

I only have 58K miles on my M235 and it'll be paid off in a few months so I'm keeping it for a while, hopefully another 3-4 years at least.

I have an e90 and wanted a smaller fun convertible. 85% of my driving is alone, 14% is with one one other passenger and I expect to have a full back seat less than 10 times per year. The M240i fit the bill and the 4 series was just unnecessarily big. With the ability to get a manual transmission I ordered one and have had it about 45 days. It's the perfect size car. I'd think about how often you want that back seat. Also its a convertible. Do you really need blind spot monitoring? Adjust your mirrors wide or turn your head and you'll see everything with the top down.

I went from a 2019 718 Cayman to a 330i for back seat still with decent performance and handling........that lasted for 2 years and I could not take the size and 'boat like' feeling of the car (compared to the series of Caymans I had owned...). I was lucky enough to recently get a 2018 CPO M240i. While not quite a Cayman, it is directionally a much, much better car for my specs. I think a 440 vs 240 is an apples to oranges compare. By they way, in the first 4 Caymans I owned, I never had Blindspot warning. And, if you ever have driven one, they have massive blindspots. The 2 series does not come close to having this as an issue. I do not find myself missing it from the 330i which had it as well as the last Cayman. My two cents.......

It is very easy to set up the 2-series side-view mirrors so that there is no blindspot. Lots of tutorials online. Of course, you will not get any warning, but unless you are reckless about such things, the problems should be minimal.
As has been pointed out many times on this forum, the F2x series is almost identical to the old E46 in dimensions, while the new 4-series is much larger and feels it. So what you lose in gadgets you gain in driveability. One note: used F23s in decent shape are as rare as hens' teeth these days and the prices have skyrocketed. So if you want exactly what you want, a new 4 may make more sense financially, especially if you plan to keep ti. |
