Why are there two different types of headlights?

Whats up with the different DRL's in the videos ?
sometimes its corona style like an M2 and sometimes its just two underbars like a normal 3series ? depends on the package ? laser light ?

greed, bmw gives the droopy eye DRL as standard and you need exec pack in US to get the proper DRL

BMW has been doing this since 2015 (maybe even earlier not sure)

- they had the $1800 adaptive lighting package on 2015-2017 cars that made the base model cars look dated now (imo), the lighting pack cars had a much more premium looking headlight

2018+ required exec pack (I think some m3's still got the icons without the exec tho) for the nice icon lights, you'd be getting base model 430i lights without the exec pack.

Now they're doing this bullshit again. It's annoying, you need to get a higher spec'd car to avoid getting the "poverty" headlights lol. Personally I think on the F8x the lighting/exec package was a must.

The G8x though the front end is already so questionable I don't think base model lights can hurt it lol. I'd still get one because of the performance but those headlights are not a necessity to me

They always had some higher trim lights to offer...probably not in all markets though.

Halogen > Xenon
LED > Adaptive LED
LED > Laser Lights

But back thrn the DLR graphics where always the same, no matter what you choose...

Then I believe with the G20 or G01 they introduced the mentioned differences by you, different DLR for the lower and higher trim lights, so you now recognize if a car has the "standard" or "optional" headlights...

And of course the higher trim looks better and more BMW, so they want to force you to get the option to have the "typical" lights...

So in short, they just want you to spend some more money, as probably a lot of people want this iconic BMW lights...

If this still are the angel eyes you mean on the SPY, then yes, with laser light option, the PB is how it looks with standard lights

I'll tell you what is going to drive me crazy, especially since it's not in any of the promo pictures but when I saw a G80 in person at the dealer it stuck out like a sore thumb.

That damn bright yellow warning sticker inside of the headlight housing. The housing is sealed, so it'll be impossible to get rid of. I just know I am going to eyeball it each and every time I walk out to my car.

I picked up my car on Tuesday and I have the laser lights and I didn't get the executive package. I've read on here that other people got them as well, without getting the executive package.

Me too. On the USA Configurator it shows that the only way to get the Laserlights is by ordering the Executive Package. I did not do this, but I ended up with them anyway. On the Vehicle Specifications sheet that came with the car they are listed as Icon Adaptive LED w/Laserlight Included..as in no charge. Seems to be happening to a significant number of other folks as well. No clue as to how or why.

I guess you need to get SPY then so it blends in.

I ordered exec pack mostly because of the lights but I'm not even in production yet. My luck they would have fixed that glitch by then.

Ridiculous pricing strategy. As if making the standard LED non adaptive is not enough.

I totally agree. I wasn't gonna spend $3k on that Executive Package to get the better looking lights. IMO I didn't need anything else in that Package.

What exactly do the ">" mean to in your post? I ask because the universal definition is "greater than".

To bring more precision to your post (for M3/4):
E46: Halogen / Xenon
E9X: Xenon
F8X: Xenon / LED
F8XLCI: LED / Icon LED
G8X: LED / LED+LASER
