M3 or M4? Which did you choose, and why?

Looking at what people seem to be ordering, I feel like I'm seeing way more M3s than M4s. I am close to placing an order and was sold on the M4, but now I'm starting to have doubts and I'm considering the M3. I have had one 3 Series coupe and multiple 3 Series sedans.

Some Pros/Cons, IMO:

M4

Pros
lower sleeker roofline
sportier looking

Cons
long doors (recall from my E92 days these can be a pain)
side view looks a little long to me

M3

Pros
Rear arches look more pronounced to me due to rear door
Better use of backseat
shorter front doors

Cons
Not as sporty or sleek looking
Looks just a little 'stately' to me even in M form

Just my opinion, but I don't think there's anything stately about the G80. It's probably one of the most aggressive M's from front to back, and if you add carbon buckets, also inside.

Since the F80, I'm all about the 4 doors, whereas I preferred the 2 doors in the older M's. The rear arches just make the car, and the fact that the car has such a wide appeal is really great (i.e transmission choices, RWD vs AWD, good useable room ect)

This view is amazing IMO:

Having dogs means 4 doors for me. Thankfully I think the M3 looks better than the M4 also so it works out!

I had a 2-door (F32) and now have a 4-door (F30), and I certainly like the look of the 2-door car better. But I found the 2-door much louder when there were people in the back seat. The noise was passengers bitching about it being a pain it the ass to get in and out, or my wife complaining that she hated the long door.

For coupes there are much better cars out there.. Porsche Cayman, Shelby GT350, Camaro ZL1.

For sedan there is no better one with manual transmission.

M3 for me. Just more convenient with a kid. Plus I think it looks better than the M4. If the M4 was shorter, a little lower, and a little wider... that MIGHT change my opinion. But chopping off 2 doors while still maintaining the length of the car just doesn't make sense to me. The whole point of a 2 door to me is that you get a smaller, more agile and sporty car.

There is always the Cadillac BLack-wing CT4, that's the only other option.

M3. I always wanted a 4 door M car and I still have my E92 M3 so I didn’t want two coupes.

M4 for me... only because I think the M3 would look bad as a 4 door convertible (I'm going G83!).

I looked at that and the CT5 it doesn't seem refined also you're going to have to wait until late summer/next year and since it's probably the last v8 manual they will be like $10,000 over sticker. Hard to swallow $120k+ tax for a Cadillac.

Camaro ZL1 has won a bunch of awards for being a fairly decent track weapon. Interior probably isn't as good as the m4 but I feel like the mechanics and platform is better.

Can you name a 4 door Toyota that has wide rear fenders, fat & aggressive rear bumper, real & functional CF diffuser, large & real quad tail-pipes, 285 wide tires, and sits nice & low like an M3?

No offense but sometimes people compare the rear of 2 cars by looking at the tail light design only. Yes the G20/G80 tail lights look like Lexus tail lights to a certain extent but we already crossed that bridge 2 years ago.

If I go G8x it will be M3 for me because the M4 proportions look terrible. It's stoopid long for a coupe IMO. Also I swear from pics G82 ride height is like 1" higher than G80.

M3, looks more balanced. Also dont need to slide up doors to let people in the back seats.

I went for the G82 M4 and was close like you, but ended up getting a good deal, and looking at so many videos and pictures, i think seeing it in person will make the proportions make more sense, as the arches and the whole rear 3/4 do bulge out but depends on the colour and spec you choose. G80 does also look really good, but wanted something more sportier looking.

I’m an empty nester and I haven’t had more than one pax in my car in years so I don’t need 4 doors.

And, IMO, an M car should only have 2 doors.

Pure and simple

Porsche get way too expensive way too fast. I have a stereotype in my head about people that drive Mustangs, even if it is a Shelby and a Camaro isn't far off from it. I can't find a better coupe for the performance and price or I'd go get it.

M4 for me. I'm single with no kids or dogs or other reason to need easy access to a back seat and have no need for 4 doors, except on my Jeep Cherokee. To me a sports car is a coupe with 2 doors. The M3 looks nice, but coupe always for me.

If I had no need for 4 doors I would look at the M2 or Cayman. But I need 4 doors so M3C it is.

You can get a decent cayman GTS that has the GT4 engine for the same price I am paying for a loaded m3. If I didn't need 4 doors there would be no question which car I'd choose 🤷.
