Flat Runflat Tire

Sigh...

cliff notes:

- warning light came on
- runflat got a nail stuck inside
- super frustrated
- didn't get the tire insurance

I need the car for 2 more months before i change my rims and stuff and i cannot do it at this moment. How should i get the runflat replaced?

Dealer quoted me 700 bucks btw, and this was my reaction

Should I just find some used runflats for the rest of the 2 months?

Is it hard to wrap used runflats around the wheel?

I don't think it can be fixed, at least that's what the dealer and another 3er owner told me

The tire insurance is a piece of f*ckin bullsh*t. I got ripped off big time: my tires didn't have "enough" tread left to qualify as being replaceable under the warranty when 3 of them got nails in them. The warranty doesn't apply to any other tires except the ones that came with your car too.

Good thing you didn't get the warranty, trust me.

I paid for the 5 year tire warranty contract (and it bailed me out a week after purchasing it). But yes you are correct about keeping the same OE tires on the whole time of ownership.

I had a Nail stuck in one of my rear RFT tires.... took it to:
-Tire Kingdom
-Goodyear

And they all told me ... "Sorry, can't fix it.... Want to buy a new one from us
for $400????"

Lucky for me...one of the guys who overheard my conversation, referred me to a MOM&POP shop near by....

Lucky for me, the nail was in the dead center of the tire.... so they PLUGGED! And its perfect!!!!!!!

Note: RFT cannot be PLATCHED due to interior wall....but they can be repaired with a Plug (as long as its not too close to the outside wall)

Ability to repair a runflat depends on the size of the hole and the location. If the hole is near the edge of the tire you are out of luck. If the hole is in the center of the tread and the hole is small then you have a shot at getting it plugged successfully. I just recently had the BMW dealer put in a plug on one of my run-flats at no charge under warranty.

I plugged one of my RFT myself about 6 months ago and it's been holding air perfectly fine.

Just scanning this thread since I have a flat runflat, and I've come across some pretty faulty info, so I thought i'd chime in. The warranty should be good for ANY replacement tire if it is reasonably in the realm of the oem ones. I've had my winter tires replaced as an example. What my dealer told me was, basically, I can't put 24's on the car and expect them to get replaced when i keep blowing them on potholes. lol. Also, I read all my fine print and nowhere does it say it must be OEM tires or the first tires on the car when purchased. There is, of course, treadwear stipulations.

Dunno... from the number of folks who put normal tires on their OEM RFT-optimized rims, I'd deduce that it is possible. I haven't (yet)...
