My rotors shake! Not bad but ruining the ride for me! Or at least unable to enjoy it to its fullest potential!

I prefer drilled

Just got a new set of rims and tires

These. Pick a color. I went with Orange so they'll pop out from my Estoril Blue. Available here: https://www.bimmerworld.com/Brakes/B...t-F22-F3X.html.

The rotors aren't drilled; instead, they're dimpled and slotted (read: WAY cooler! ).

You might think so, but that complete system I pointed you to (calipers, rotors, pads, pins, springs, bolts, and sensors) costs about as much as a brake job.

Math-wise, it's a no-brainer if you want a little bling for your car.

Can't comment on rotors as mine are fine and I reused, but the akebono EUR 1656 and EUR 1880 pads have been doing great by me for the last 2k miles. No dust, great stopping power. Lost a little bite over the factory pads but that was expected and a great trade off for fixing the dust problem

A brake job costs $2000 for our cars? Am I misunderstanding you?

If your rotors shake, you need to take it to a proper mechanic first to get that figured out..

Nothing about the stock brake setup is cheap. How many miles on it?

drilled rotors will do nothing but grind down brake pads cheaper, if you're not tracking.

And if you are tracking, drilled holes add the feature of providing a place for stress cracks to form - avoid drilled unless you are totally hooked on the look (the dimpled BMW rotors would be a good option if you need that look). Otherwise, for dress up rotors, I'd go with one that has different slotting (like the claw-shapes or semi-circles).

And ditto on the suggestion to take it to a mechanic first - pulsing is a symptom.

Afterwards, maybe call your local Porsche dealer to ask him what the same job will cost on the P-car you want. You may want to be seated when you hear that number.

Oh god I am well aware of the atrocious P-car premium haha. Pay to play and all that.

I have never gotten brakes done at dealerships for any of the cars I have owned. I doubt a decent local shop would charge 2k for a brake job on our 2ers. Of course I don't have the proper dealership context and you speak from experience. Will know for sure tomorrow.

Brakes are really easy to do, especially with brembo/fixed calipers since a piston compressor isn't required. My last rotor/pad replacement cost me $500 using Zimmerman rotors/hawk pads and roughly 2 hours of time. Plus, the only tools you need are a torque wrench, spanner, hex end screwdriver, and a pin remover tool for the pad retainers.

A private shop that won't allow you to bring your own parts can easily charge $1,500+ for all four corners. Even if they did, you would still need to pay about 4 hours of labor ($400-500) but I can't find any shops around me that will allow that, especially when it comes to safety items like brakes. Plus, shops don't really make all that much from labor, the added revenue from part sales margin is almost a requirement these days.

Thank you! That's a valuable data point. My local shop once quoted me ~$1200 something for all four corners (I believe it was OEM? If I am remembering correctly; I didn't need it but was doing some research). So I think ~$2k by a dealership will be quiet possible.

Most private shops also wont allow you to supply your own parts. If you want hawk pads and they'll even order them, you'll pay a premium on that too.

for 14k they better not have any stress other than that of the wallet.

Shaking comes from pad deposition in the rotors, both will need to be replaced to resolve. Google the term if not familiar..

When it comes to replacing the parts, you need to know which direction you’re going.

OEM+?

Performance street ? No tracking

Aggressive street w/ a few annual track days?

Street/Track with frequent weekends on track?

Track only?

Would recommend while doing your brakes to also look at changing the brake fluid. OE spec is okay for normal duty..

Dealership quoted me a little over $1700 for all four rotors and pads. Pretty pricy for oem.

When my rotors go out of spec - or next Spring. I'm going to go with the M Performance BBK. Seems like a bargain at ~$2500 installed.

It's possible that moving your purchase date up may be wise. Per this Bimmerworld page, "These kits are in short supply and BMW may discontinue them at any time. If an OEM performance brake upgrade is in your planning, now is the time grab this complete kit.":

https://www.bimmerworld.com/BMW-M-Pe...t-F22-F3X.html.

FWIW, Bimmerworld is not in the business of stampeding customers into buying what they have to sell. After talking to them, I took their advice and purchased a kit for myself.
