Next Gen 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe (G42) Spy Pics & Videos

BIMMERPOST NEWS
First Sighting of Next gen 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe (G42)!
811
COMMENTS

We have the first look at the next generation "G42" 2 Series Coupe, spotted in Mexico!

First things first, yes -- the G42 2 Series Coupe will be RWD.

The first sighting (below) in Mexico is appropriate given that its production will take place primarily or entirely at the BMW San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico (evidence).

G42 production will begin August 2021 and last until March 2029. The current (F22) 2 Series coupe ends production in June 2021. According to our future models info, potential models for G42 could include 220i, 220d, 220d xDrive, 230i, 230i xDrive, M240i, and M240i xDrive (or potentially M245i as our info indicates).

There will be a next generation M2 Coupe based on the G42. The current (F87) M2 coupe ends production in June 2021.

Great that it seems to not have huge kidneys. Hope that it didn’t grow very much.

Scott26 has said the next 2er is going to have the bigger/longer grilles, but not as extreme as the new 4er. I'm hoping it will be like the 3.0 CSL Homage Concept.

These spy shots look like they confirm the earlier leaks being a 2-series and not a 1-series. Rear end looks identical and the camouflage is transparent enough to see the LED rear lights share a similar design.

Taillights ruin an otherwise nice evolution of the 2.

I have to say, the ONE thing I am less than thrilled about with the M2C is that the C pillar is a bit 'abrupt' or 'boxy,' and always felt if it were elongated just a bit - like the M4 - it would be damn near perfect.

From what I can tell, the next 2-series generation has addressed this matter and the C pillar looks spot-on.

Throw an S58 under the hood with a few ///M parts and the next generation M2C will be dynamite . . . in fact, it will be the new M4C, provided there is nothing hideous sitting under the camouflage in the front grille area.

So far, so good!

The rear lights don't look the same at all. The camouflaged car has a sharp straight line separating the lights and trunk. The leaked pic has the lights cutting into the trunk much like the current 2 series.

Current model in M2 form looks nearly perfect. I don't like the front end of that unmasked car, looks over styled with weird headlights.

The shape of the rear is very close between the two. It is still in prototype stage so changes may have been made since the leak from months ago such as a trunk cut line or it could be camouflage, but the two are almost exactly the same other than one being an m-performance model and the spy shots being a lower trim. As for the taillights, the LED outline can be seen through the camouflage and it reflects the same angular shape. Even with the headlights covered up you can see a sweeping design piece inside the cover which is similar to the leaked image. This is most likely the same vehicle featured in the leak as creases, body lines and the overall shape pretty much match each other.

This is only the normal 2 Series. Next-generation M2 is not supposed to go in production until December 2022, so it won't be out until 2023. Got a while yet.

Agreed. I don't see how the G Series M2 will look as good as current generation M2.

Too early to tell, but looks like the corona ring headlights are dead. None on the M5 LCI, none on this. So sad.
Not sure about the lower front bumper lines. Just like all recent releases, very busy. Please no fake intakes.

As far as the super wide but not long grills, anything is better than the G8x grills.

Any historical element at BMW is dead. New design chief at BMW has been quoted saying he doesn't care about historical elements, specifically the Hoff kink.
