2010 335d Good Price?

I found a 2010 335d with only 50k miles and the dealer is selling it for 13,988. Is this a good price and what would be the things I should look out for?

FMV = $11,092-$12,815

I'm guessing they are trying to sell it at a premium based on the low mileage.

Kbb should take the mileage into account. I’ve never paid over top end of FMV for a used car, but at the end of the day it’s worth what you’re willing to pay...

Knowing how the car is equipped would help with assessing how much its worth. For comparison, I've been seeing 335's for around the 10k mark (or lower) albeit with higher mileage. Seems this one might be charging more for the low mileage.

Try posting the question in the diesel sub forum, I'm sure you'll get more replies there with more insight: https://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=377 There's also a diesel owners Facebook group with a lot of previous forum members thats really active. Search for North American Diesel Owners Group.

Regarding things to look for, the big things are carbon build up and emissions components (DPF, SCR, EGR). Carbon build up can occur at mileage as low as 50k so definitely get written assurance the car has none. As far as the emissions components, the car shouldnt have warning lights when you test drive it. Get yourself a BMW code scanner (or the ProTool app) and do a quick scan to make sure there are no silent fault codes indicating potential issues down the line. The diesel sub forum also has a lot of good write ups earmarked at the top of the page that do a great job of outlining any potential weaknesses. Make sure to read up on them to get an idea of what to expect.

Looks in good condition (albeit the pictures leave much to be desired). It looks like they dropped the price down by about 1k as well. It doesnt appear to be fully loaded so I'd assume the price reflects the lower than average mileage. The Carfax report seemed clean as well but we all know it's not always 100% representative of a car's history.

Yes, I've been in contact with the dealer. I haven't had the chance to go look at the vehicle but hopefully this weekend. I know that they are banking on trying to make the money based on the fact that it is a low mileage vehicle.

I gave him an offer but that has yet to be worked out. I'm in no hurry.

Definitely take it for a test drive (extended if possible) and see how it drives. If you have a way to scan for codes, do that as well so you can be as informed as possible about its current state.

If I may ask, how much did you offer for the car?

That is extremely low miles but I would miss the sport package that I have grown accustomed too. It wouldn't be hard to swap the steering wheel but I expect the seats would take some $$ and time/effort.

But I would also check for carbon build-up. There is a whole section on the Abcs of emissions deletes. If you are looking for a keeper and don't mind dropping $3-5K in the near term for mods, this could be a very nice platform.

Good point on the 3-5k to do the emissions deletes if you live in a state that doesn't do emissions checks on diesels. Doing the deletes will do wonders for reliability.

i'm in Florida so we don't have emission test.

Does the delete have to be done by the indy shop or can it be DIY?

You can do the deletes yourself but a lift makes the job much, much easier. The biggest PITA is removing the DPF (which requires removing one engine mount). There's a DIY on this forum somewhere for that. Next would be the SCR, which can be done on a set of jack stands or big ramps. And the easiest of the lot is the EGR cooler block off and/or removal.
